Just saw it last night. I loved the movie overall.
Some thoughts:
1st: IMAX may have been too immersive. The storm scenes felt like I was inside a thunderstorm, and a few of the sound effects completely overwhelmed the dialogue. Great experience overall—I just wish the sound mix had been dialed back about 10%.
2nd: Interesting online debate about Matt Damon as Odysseus in The Odyssey.
The reaction is not really that Damon was bad—many critics and viewers thought he gave a strong, grounded and sympathetic performance. The criticism is that he sometimes felt too recognizably “Matt Damon” and did not fully project the cunning, darkness and mythic intensity traditionally associated with Odysseus.
The alternative mentioned most often appears to be Oscar Isaac, followed by Javier Bardem, Christian Bale and Cillian Murphy. Isaac is probably the most intriguing choice: he might have brought more unpredictability, Mediterranean authenticity and a sharper sense that Odysseus is always calculating his next move.
My take: Damon was good, but this may remain one of those roles where people will always wonder what Oscar Isaac—or perhaps Christian Bale—might have done with it.

I've always felt he should've gone with an unknown for Odysseus, like he did with Dunkirk

That would have made a lot of sense. An unfamiliar actor might have made Odysseus feel more mysterious, unpredictable and mythic—especially for audiences without a fixed image of the performer already in their heads.

I had a fixed image of Odysseus because I had just reread the poem before watching the movie. I was okay with Damon’s performance and essentially echoed what you said about the other possible actors for that role.
I did a rewatch so I could see it in 70mm imax last week and my opinion totally changed. Knowing how he played Odysseus and where it ends, I was able to appreciate his performance much more than my initial watch.

Nolan has to have allstar casts to distract you. Bernthal doing the “no,no,no” hasn’t even been mentioned even though it’s something out of Monty Python shoved right into this “serious, acclaimed” movie.

So its mandatory that everyone watch this movie TWICE to really understand it? Double the pay, double the popcorn, double the theater attendance?
So double on all the theater stuff to REALLY get a good sense of it? $$$$$$$$ times two?

The real trick is that it didn’t even happen. The Odyssey is a fever dream, what really happened is he wrecked his boat, shacked up with some tart and got high then went home.

MK II should have made a lot more money than it did.
That said, movies have not reached pre-Covid numbers. In 2019 movies had a cumulative gross if $11.3 billion (with Endgame as the biggest film); no year since then has broken $9 billion. 2023 was the best year since then, propped up by Barbie and Oppenheimer along with GotG 3, The Super Mario Bros Movie, and Across the Spider-Verse.
That said this year has already 3 movies break a billion worldwide:
Toy Story 5
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Michael
Pretty safe bet Odyssey will join them, but even if it falls short it's floor is likely 4th highest grossing movie of 2026 to date (after Michael the next biggest is The Devil Wears Prada 2, which banked $690 million)
I think there's definitely been some legitimately fun movies that got tanked that deserved better (though only MK II on your graphic). Masters of the Universe, for example, deserved better.
While it did fine, I think The Sheep Detectives also should have made more.
That said, movies have not reached pre-Covid numbers.
