I was kind of surprised that it didn't touch on the prophecy of his death. He dies attacking Telegonus, not knowing he was his son from Circe. That would have been a nice twist at the end.

So obviously it’s going to pass 1 billion and become Nolan’s highest grossing film. I guess the next thing to see is if it will become the highest grossing R rated movie of all time as well.

So I have a cousin by marriage whose son and friends were trying to get 70mm IMAX tickets to The Odyssey in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, but all the showings were sold out for like the next month: save the handicap areas. So what do they do? They go to Goodwill and buy wheelchairs and show up to the theater rolling in these things. Not only did they get to see the movie in 70mm, but they got to see the movie at a discount for being "handicapped."

Haven’t read the thread yet, but the wife and I just got out of the movie.
We agreed that it was a bit of a letdown.
I’m not sure if it was the use of so many known actors, the use of such modern speak at times or the choices made and way the scenes were cut together…
…I just feel like considering the subject matter, it lacked gravitas.
I can’t imagine this movie being part of the cultural zeitgeist in 5-10 years.
Now to see what TD thinks…

Saw it this weekend.
Our expectations were way too high. This was a mid-level Nolan film at best. The audio was fine, visuals not too dark, pacing was okay. No standout performances other than Ann Hathaway getting to chew the scenery and Bill Irwin in the one great scene as the cyclops.
I have to say that this was one performance from John Leguizamo where he didn't overdo it or try to overshadow his scene partners.
Replacing Lupita Nyong'o wouldn't have helped, and Eliott Page kind of worked playing a victim and martyr. I'm far more pissed about their building up Agamemnon and it turning out to be Benny fricking Safdie.
I probably most enjoyed seeing the practical effects on a grand and small scale, knowing they built that actual Trojan Horse, that they were out in the ocean and not in a tank. I did think the use of kids in place of Odysseus' men for their forest battle with the Laestrygonians was very charming. I got a kick out of spotting the kid actors here and there.

For Odsyeus they used a very short but really jacked woman for his stunt double in that scene

While I am 100% against the race swap casting, Lupita Nyong’o as Helen and Clytemnestra weren’t the reason I didn’t enjoy this film. She was in the movie for only about 10 minutes total, and some of that was in flashback scenes. It was too slow, very bland, and some of the performances (Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway in particular) were just not good. Why not show more of the Greek gods? We only get Zendaya as Athena. Why make Circe look like a homeless woman? Even the stringing of the bow, which is the climax of the story, fell flat.
