MK II should have made a lot more money than it did.
That said, movies have not reached pre-Covid numbers. In 2019 movies had a cumulative gross if $11.3 billion (with Endgame as the biggest film); no year since then has broken $9 billion. 2023 was the best year since then, propped up by Barbie and Oppenheimer along with GotG 3, The Super Mario Bros Movie, and Across the Spider-Verse.
That said this year has already 3 movies break a billion worldwide:
Toy Story 5
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Michael
Pretty safe bet Odyssey will join them, but even if it falls short it's floor is likely 4th highest grossing movie of 2026 to date (after Michael the next biggest is The Devil Wears Prada 2, which banked $690 million)
I think there's definitely been some legitimately fun movies that got tanked that deserved better (though only MK II on your graphic). Masters of the Universe, for example, deserved better.
While it did fine, I think The Sheep Detectives also should have made more.

Along with The Odyssey I definitely see Spider-Man Brand New Day and Doomsday flying past the $1 billion mark. BND is projected to open to $300 million on just domestic numbers

Him and Batman seem like the only two superheroes that can't be hurt by superhero fatigue they're just way too popular

True, though a decent portion of Doomsday will be in 2027, that initial amount will definitely be part of 2026's haul.
We're at $5.6 billion so far; we should see the totals break $9 billion for the best year since Covid; I doubt it will break $10 billion but who knows... if so it'll be the first time since 2019 and that was the last year after a stretch from 2009-2019 that overall gross broke $10 billion.
I do like that it isn't relying purely on sequels and the MCU to reach those numbers. The Odyssey and Project: Hail Mary might be books turned into movies, but they're hardly remakes of recent attempts. While the top 2 movies are sequels (Toy Story 5 and Super Mario Bros Galaxy), the next 4 biggest are Michael, Project Hail Mary, The Odyssey, and Obsession (with Backrooms at 8 and Hoppers at 10) - rankings based on domestic numbers. They fluctuate a bit when Worldwide totals are considered.

Pretty sure this is only domestic totals: Smallest Second Week Gross Drop - BoxOfficeMojo
The biggest movies I saw were Avatar (-1.7%), Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (+38.4%), Night at the Museum (+20.8%), etc.
I didn't dig in to see which ones were because the second weekend fell on a holiday or anything like that.
A 3% drop or less would put it in the 30; 25 movies made more money than they did their opening weekend.
