Even without all that, and factoring marketing costs and Nolan’s cut, I think it’s safe to say it’s going to be profitable based on box office receipts alone.
Not to mention streaming, physical media, re-release during awards season, licensing to TV etc
It'll be fine. Nolan will continue to get to make whatever he wants

So the film gets shot with imax 70mm knowing that it increases production costs but also knowing the tickets are sold for a premium… and we are supposed to ignore them as if it causes “inflated” numbers? GTFO.

Literally no one said this wasn't going to be the outcome. His cache as a director and the original property alone are enough to carry it. The question is if the casting decisions and dialogue are causing negative harm to things and the answer is likely to be yes.
Given all the factors, this should be the biggest movie of all time by a wide margin. The reality is that it got beat out comfortably in the US market by Toy Story 5.

1) The Odyssey
2) Peak Nolan
3) First Full IMAX movie
4) Stacked recognizable cast with many in their prime
5) Practical sets, low CGI
What am I missing exactly?

Not even close to what I said.
You should ask yourself why you and the others are so passionately defending this movie.

That its a fricking R rated 3 hours long film based on an ancient greek tale
You fricking numbskull.
You fricking numbskull.

This is not passion. I liked it, I thought it was really good. That's about it.
A better question is why so many of you want a film you haven't seen and won't to fail so badly

Its R rated, which already limits its mass appeal.
And I also have no idea how much of an appeal Nolan or The Odyssey as a story has towards younger audiences.

Now we're using beating The Last Jedi (the worst POS Star Wars movie of all time) as a measuring stick. Come on bro

Settle down, Francis. It's just a news article for anyone interested in reading about it

Christopher Nolan’s big-screen epic “The Odyssey” has beaten “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” to take first place as the highest-ever three-day gross at the BFI Imax theater in central London, clocking in at £219,867 ($300,000).
The BFI Imax holds only one screen, which at 20 metres (65 feet) tall and 26 metres (85 feet) wide is the largest in the U.K. It has a 493-seat capacity and is one of only three Imax cinemas in the U.K. with the capability of showing the film in Imax 70mm, as Nolan intended.
“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” previously held the theater’s record with a three-day opening weekend gross of £216,454 followed by Nolan’s 2023 hit “Oppenheimer,” which had a three-day opening weekend gross of £207,677.
It's just a comparison to the previous movie that held the record at that IMAX theater.

Plenty of moviegoers heeded that call. Imax accounted for $51.8 million (or 23%) of initial global ticket sales, standing as the company’s biggest opening in like-for-like markets — above a little blockbuster called “Avengers: Endgame.” And it’s currently pacing ahead of “Oppenheimer,” which was a juggernaut in Imax with $35 million worldwide to start and $180 million by the end of its run, contributing roughly 20% of overall revenues.
Imax, which is offering “The Odyssey” (and “The Odyssey” alone) for three entire weeks, has been scheduling showtimes at odd hours of the day to accommodate the stratospheric demand. Movie lovers are going to great lengths to see the film in the coveted 70mm auditoriums, with some deranged determined fans booking 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. screenings of the nearly three-hour epic. Those 70mm screens — and there are only 41 in the entire world — contributed a mighty $6.3 million over the weekend. If you didn’t snag a ticket a year ago, good luck — those Imax locations are fully booked for weeks.

All-Audience Blockbuster
Nolan has even captivated the TikTok generation. A surprising 50% of audience members were between 18 and 34 years old, underscoring the director’s appeal to cinephiles of all ages. That’s a notable turnout for moviegoers under a certain age, considering Bronze-Age epics aren’t exactly the genre du jour of Gen Z.
“The easy and natural assumption is ‘The Odyssey’ would have an older fanbase,” says Robbins. “But Nolan tapped into all crowds. It’s a sword-and-sandal movie, but it’s also a fantasy adventure and a reflective character study. The story translates across ages.”

It could make all the money in the world, but we are going to get think pieces about inflation on ticket prices going back to Orson Welles films about why its a failure

Like I've said before, the goalposts will just keep moving for certain people to justify their sky screaming over the movie.

What are some films it MUST do better than box office wise to be a success in your eyes
