I don’t hate this movie, so that’s enough for a recommendation

By nudging “The Mandalorian” onto the big screen, Disney, the purveyor of the “Star Wars” multiverse, is offering nothing more (or less) than a couple of likable, diverting, semi-forgettable episodes jammed together.

I avoided all spoilers and all reviews to go in knowing nothing about this movie. I went a see this afternoon. It was cute enough but these two reviews sum up exactly what I felt leaving.

The movie very much felt like two mando episodes put on the big screen. I liked it but I have nothing really good to say about it. Embo was badass. Grogu is exactly where the show left him, he hasn’t advanced at all. I’m not a Pedro pascal fan but mando’s fight scenes were the highlight. Weaver felt so out of place in this movie like they brought her in just to have some type of homage name for Alien.

Most people seem to have that opinion

Except for a handful that are saying things like, "It was great, suck it haters" to literally nobody.

I was waiting for word of mouth

And from what I am hearing, I can probably wait until streaming.

I was waiting for one or 2 people to come out and give me a reason to buy tickets. Instead I just saw performative enthusiasm to "own the {insert group I don't like}", and others saying it was fine.

Made me a bit sad, tbh. I wanted a slam dunk that revitalized the IP. Star Wars really needed it. Instead we appear to have gotten Solo

which was also fine.

I am sure I will enjoy it at home.

Where?

I searched back 6 months through topics containing "Mandalorian", got one negative thread title

LINK

When I searched "Star Wars" and just "Wars", not a single negative topic on M&G

like I said, man. You guys are tilting at windmills

You keep talking about Proximo and Madking like they don't exist, you're going to hurt their feelings.

I lol'd

But still, pretty much everyone has been in the cautiously-optimistic-to-nearly-jaded camp on this one. We all wanted it to be great.

Promo material did little to push the needle either way

more cool and badass

Mando has some cool and badass fight scenes for sure

The first scene culminating in the AT-ATs was pretty damn awesome

But I’ll echo what others have said and agree that it was “only” entertaining

No setup for future shite, no huge cameos, etc

Jeremy Jahns compared the opening scene to John Wick

But said after that it just became ok, but completely forgettable

That was a discussion thread about fan apathy, not a negative thread about the film

I was talking about how little discussion was going on for a Star Wars movie

Not about whether the movie was going to be any good

quote:

Mandalorian predictions not looking great
Was a thread on an article about box office predictions

Not on the quality of the movie

Got anything relevant. . .or honest?

Maybe you can just tell me I accused the movie of being "woke" or some such. Seems to be the standard deflection maneuver

ETA: M&G box office is still tracking below Solo, if anyone cares

How would you make a thread on the quality of the movie before it was released?

Well unless you just wanted to bitch about something you havent seen based on a trailer like Proximo

I dunno, how does anyone talk about movies before they come out

Are you serious?

bitch about something you havent seen
Which is my point

there is only one thread like that in 6 months

you went from there are no negative threads about the movie, to there were no negative threads about the quality of the movie, to there was only 1 negative thread about the quality of the movie before it released in the past 6 months

Jesus Christ, this kid. . .

Here is the post I responded to:

To which I responded

quote:

Where?
You are doing the leftist thing of "pretending not to understand things"

This fricking kid, I swear. . .

So I ask you, buttercup, where in any of the topics of mine you were so kind to link, was the topic about, or suggesting

claiming it waa gonna be the worst star wars film of all time

I'll hang up and listen. But we both know how this is going to go.

You are going to ignore the key points of this post and latch onto a different thing to try and save face

I am accustomed to that from posters such as yourself. Because, as usual, I am right. . .and it eats you up.

Just saw it. I’m an OG Star Wars fan from the 80s. I really liked it. It reminded me of the books that came out after ROTJ with Luke going on adventures dealing with bad guys after the fall of the Empire. It was well made and was a fun movie. I couldn’t find anything to hate about it and actually enjoyed it quite a bit.

And I hated the sequels, loved Andor and Rogue One, and think Empire is the best movie followed by Star Wars: ANH.

It was good. Doesn’t move the story along, stand alone, but quite good.

My wife and I both enjoyed it. The kids stayed locked in the whole time and one even asked if it would be out to rent when we got home because he wanted to watch it again that night.

I get what people are saying about it not being connected to any greater purpose and that the stakes were low, but it was a fun movie and we felt like we got our monies worth.

S I watched SW Theories’ review of it this morning and he pretty much echoes everyone else. This movie is kind of just there. It’s fun but it feels like the show extended.

The reason I responded to you was that he said the one thing he wished it did and it really needed to do was connect this movie to Thrawn/Ashoka by teasing it near the end and trying to connect it to the Universe in some other way.
