How do you rate it? I have loved that movie since a was a kid. Just watched it for the first time in about 5 years. The hair on my neck still stands up when Jim rides off the side of the mountain. The scenery is great, and I love the sequel too.

Haven’t seen it in probably 15 years but remember loving it.
It takes place in Australia, right?

Seen it as a kid and seen it since.
Still a classic family movie.

It is a GOAT among unknown films. Very good doe the family with plenty of clean humor and action.

Yea, I’m not sure where exactly it is though. You don’t typically think of mountains in Australia.

The horse riding scene was one of the best action sequences I have ever seen captured on film. The riders were legit local cowboy types and not stunt men. There are several old articles on the net discussing the making of that movie.

It was a nice family film, but not a great film in any broader sense.

It’s a 40 year old movie that

Doesn’t get much better than that.
Maybe not a great movie that could win an Oscar, but I can rewatch it every and love it.

Loved that show. And Kirk Douglas playing the roles of 2 brothers.

Great theme song. I’m pretty sure CBS uses it for the Masters.

Man From Snowy River theme is used on NBC's broadcast of The Kentucky Derby I believe, not the masters.
The film still holds up incredibly well. Kirk Douglas seriously deserved Oscar recognition. He's a powerhouse in the movie, showing not only his angry side but just how likeable and charismatic he could be as well playing Spur.
It's one of the most underrated westerns ever made. Can't give the film enough praise.
If you're not entertained by the last 20 minutes of the movie, there's no hope for you as a moviegoer.
Fun fact: I always thought George Miller of Mad Max/Babe fame directed the movie... But it was actually a completely different George Miller.
I thought he had one hell of a 1982 with both Road Warrior and Snowy River in the same year.

It’s funny to me that I’ve never seen the Man From Snowy River, but I’ve gone fishing in the Snowy River.
I guess I really should watch it sometime.
