I've learned that the more time you give hollywood to "expand" or draw out a film, the more fricked up it will be. Last of us being the most recent

The problem with last of us s2 is they cut a lot of the good stuff due to not being sure they would be renewed, thats the opposite of them trying to expand it or draw it out too much. That chopped it in half. So we lose a lot of tommy and seattle stuff and are just left with ellie and dina's love story.

If they would have just renewed them for season 2 and 3 before they were writing season 2 we would have got a better show. Discovery/Warner is a shite show right now, why do you think theyve been selling all their movies/shows to netflix? They are penny pinching and desperate for money.

I even saw Band of Brothers was on Netflix the other day.

How long was Dune 2 on Max before it went on Netflix for free streaming?

I looked it up. Dune 2 released in Theaters on March 1, 2024. On HBO Max on May 21, 2024. On Netflix January 1, 2025. So their biggest release of the year and they sold it to Netflix 9 Months after it's theater release. That's desperation.

Let me guess, the first place they get to, in the first 15 mins, is a Wakanda like kingdom. Then they pick up one to join them on their journey. Then they’ll get a few movies out of that kingdom.

As the title suggests, the film will act as a prequel to the original LOTR trilogy

Just make a faithful adaptation of The Silmarillion already.

Gonna be tough to do unless you wanna fork out a half billion dollars just for the rights to the story before you even start filming

Would have to be Apple and they are already losing a billion a year on their streaming platform

So that's why the writing, acting, and casting sucks in season 2?

I wanna know what fake reality whoever downvoted that last post lives in where they see this Gollum movie already getting shite on and War of the Rohimmir and Rings of Power getting the same treatment thinks someone is gonna dump a ton of money for the rights to the Silmarillion to start ANOTHER Lord of the Rings project.

Its not happening in the current environment.

Which season 2 casting choice didnt you like?

HBO gave them over $100 million for season 1. Discovery gave them $70ish million for season 2.

I guess they could have just wrote the show at wider scope to show entire story and left us with a cliffhanger if it didnt get renewed for S3. But it doesnt seem like they wanted to do that. Thats why there is now discussion for maybe going 4 seasons in case the financial situation changes.

Are you ever gonna go back and clarify what part of the last of us season 2 you think they expanded from the source material?

How about you just ignore them. Are we supposed to cater to just your wants and desires?

Oh look a minion. You seem smart.

Yes that was my expectation. Please cater to my unreasonable wants and desires of one thread that isnt hijacked by unrelated subject matter and opinions on how a show is going to suck because of its woke Hollywood political views yet it isnt released for another 2 years. Then chase that with back and forth arguments about some LOTR lore that anyone who has been near the nether regions of a woman with any frequency in their life knows nothing about. Yes I too have read LOTR more than once but to argue about this minutia doesnt make you look smart.......just weird.

Philzilla - thanks for your contribution to this thread.

My HOPE is, they are looking at Disney, Lucasfilm, and the critical success of Andor.

We didn't want or ask for that series, but the timeframe it was set in allowed for a brilliant story to be written. And with the producers committed to making it high quality, they have achieved where other Star Wars series "with more potential" failed.

Possibly, potentially, The Hunt for Gollum could be that for the LOTR film universe. No huge CGI, no big battles. But Gandalf and the White Council are coming to grips with the rise of Sauron happening, and the reappearances of the Rings of Power (the Nazgul are becoming active again, Thorin's motivations were to get Thror's Dwarven Ring, and Bilbo clearly has ... something).
So the actual hunt for Gollum is to help determine what Bilbo actually has; and said hunt will lead Aragorn into interesting/dangerous places. He caught Gollum on the way OUT of Mordor, and Argaorn does make quiet mention of going to both the Morgul Vale and Moria, without going into details on either. And in addition, this overlays with both the Rangers being asked to increase their watch on the Shire, and the eventual imprisonment of Gollum with the Elves of Mirkwood. So there's a lot of players involved... Aragorn and the Rangers are based out of Rivendell, so Elrond is aware. Using the Elves of Mirkwood brings Legolas and Thranduil into play. It may be interesting to learn why them, instead of Lothlorien and Galadriel.
And Gandalf apparently doesn't share much of anything with Saruman at this point, despite not fearing him to be a traitor (otherwise he would never have gone to him later on), so it's all guesswork that he doesn't feel is ready to be presented yet.

If you take an Andor-like approach, this has the possibility of being quite good, in a political intrigue sort of way. Gimli of the Lonely Mountain makes the "never trust an Elf" remark 50 yrs after the events of the Hobbit, so apparently there's still animosity between those 2 realms. Perhaps the inclusion of the Elves (but not the Dwarves) in this hunt may illustrate reasons why? Aragorn goes undercover through most of Middle Earth, you could further explore peripheral regions that way.
