It was pretty bad. I don't think people took it as personal if someone didn't like/hate it as they do now tho

It’s amazing to me. A show that was heralded for doing the unexpected, now being trashed for doing something unexpected ?

People keep saying that and it's wrong. The show wasn't heralded because it did what was "unexpected". It was heralded because it did what was unconventional.

Now the show actually has done the unexpected by becoming conventional.

Well, when you put out a pretty terrible ending to one of the major focal points of an 8 season show, this is what you get.

Lost repeat? LOL.

Fans get a super high expectation. Probably even high enough that those expectation could never be met. Show puts out episode. Fans melt and say they got cheated

Sounds like a shite ton of series around this place

That epic melt started a few years before the finale. There could have been no finale that would have satisfied half the fans. Those expectations were ultra high

I don't give a shite about anything else in the entire episode, Arya killing the night king, the stupid battle plan, jon not being Azor Ahai, Theon dying in the dumbest way possible.. It was all the ex machina, fan service, and plot armor. How many people got saved at the last second? Sam gets thrown to the ground by wights - jon even sees him getting attacked and still manages to survive? I'm fricking over all that. Season 1-4 GoT would have laughed at all that dumb shite they pulled in that episode.

I swear if Game of Thrones ends as terribly as this last episode, Sir Too Fat to Write a Book is getting thousands of “fan letters” from the LOST base. Where did he get the balls to criticize that ending as heavily as he did when he wrote half a book in 10 years while they wrote 120 episodes in around half that time? The end was great save for their treatment of Sayid.

Exactly. I thought they should've directed a compelling episode. Didn't happen):

It’s different because people legitimately loved the lost ending where the long night is getting mostly meh reviews from everyone.

I would say lost is more like the ending of True Detective season 1. One side says it’s a character drama and the other side wants answers.

The long night really did nothing to satisfy the head-cannon crowd or the character drama crowd. It just was mindless entertainment but the show has been pretty mindless for a couple seasons

The current running HBO commercial for Game of Thrones is quick cuts of the Night King and the undead overlayed with quotes like "I will fight for the living" and "This is the biggest threat we've ever faced", but sure keep pretending no one actually gave a shite and we all really just want to see Cersei and her mercenary army or whatever.

Yeah, I recently did a rewatch of LOST to indoctrinate the girlfriend into it. I still love that episode and it’s still in my Top 5 of the series as a whole. Save for Sayid, I still think it’s largely a perfect ending to the show. The girlfriend loathed the final twist though and got really pissed off about it and went on a 20 minute rant.

Then we watched this shite show together on Sunday. She liked it (hasn’t read the books), but I went on a similar rant (as y’all saw) as she did on much this fricking sucked. She then laughed and said “Now you know how I feel about LOST”.

Because they didn't do what you want/expected it was not creative?

No because it was written, paced, and directed horribly. It made no sense. She just came sprinting at blazing speed imperceptible to the human eye and then lept about 6 feet in the air and 20 feet in distance to do a Rey lightsaber drop and kill the guy.

We’re now in a place where you can’t like or dislike something anymore.

You like the episode, well then you must just be an idiot fanboy who will say everything is the greatest

You dislike the episode, well then you’re just mad because what you wanted to see happen didn’t happen

I would think the lost ending would be more satisfying if you watched with out reading lost forums, this site and even the early Bill Simmons pods. So much of that was on the lore and that’s what I liked about the show. So I hated the ending cause it felt cheap.

I’ve been out of the crackpot thread and /r/asoiaf for a long time now so I wasn’t in full melt mode cause I just been checked out. The people not reading /r/asoiaf are missing a great melt. Those people souls have been broken

Not to hijack, but I do think that some fans were just pissed something wasn’t explained that was eventually explained by the writers or they were stupid enough to think they all died in the crash. Damon Lindeloff argued for 10 minutes with an idiot journalist who said they died in the crash. As for some of the smarter ones pissed everything wasn’t explained, I’m just wondering if they would have rather had a Q&A panel with Damon and Carlton as the finale. Granted there are still some dumb mother frickers out there still confused on where the polar bears came from, despite being explicitly told on like 4 different occasions.
