Question: Were the infected always this fast? It seems like they were slower in the beginning. But, my memory isn't great.
I believe they were quick but not necessarily smart about their movements.
It’s probably not a big jump to suggest they’re evolving in that way too.

Yeah, this was kind of weird. They had all of these other defenses in place but, didn't think to keep the infected from getting to their defensive positions?
Thought the same.

…why would I do that?
A normal person wouldn't. But she's a 80 year old that that obsesses over pedophiles, gays, and trans in movies and TV and just watches incel youtube all day and doesn't ever actually watch the shows but likes to go in threads and troll and act like a know it all. Girl is legit mentally off.

I asked this earlier but didn't see anything.
They were legit keeping up with running horses.

Here's a YouTube video of when they came out of the hole in the ground outside of the town they were in for Season 1.
They were moving pretty damn fast.

Yeah, the bloater seemed to be the difference also.

quote:similar to the brain bug in starship troopers. It would be very very cool to incorporate the real world capabilities of mycelium as far as communication and behavior direction which it’s clear they are attempting to do. What I would like to see is some exposition here by someone (could be anyone) to confirm that for the audience

have someone pick up a book on fungi and do the research for us and lay it out there

kind of a derail but related…if you want your mind blown as to what fungi are capable of and how completely in control of the natural world they are, read a book called “entangled life”. It will seriously change everything you thought you knew about how the biosphere works

I thought it was pretty obvious that the fungus in the Jackson pipes was communicating (the tendrils rising up and waving) with the collective.
The means of that weren't made explicit, but I thought the effect was clear.

quote:yes i agree. i think it would add to the tension of the the show to go ahead and make the means explicit, as it is exactly what happens with mycelium in the real world. and it would help raise the stakes...these arent zombies they are much more dangerous than that.

the last mycologist we saw was way back in EP1. go back to her if needed

Tess (She will always be Olivia/Fauxlivia to me) had an exposition dump in the second episode of season 1 when they were observing the infected from a balcony. She says the tendrils can run for over a mile and disturbing one can alert a dozen infected somewhere else. Here is the clip.
They jacked up the distance and number of infected but I think that’s aligned with the idea that they are evolving.

I was just thinking of what book to pick up next

I can’t recommend it enough. It is absolutely riveting and not cold or clinical at all
it will also make this show way more engaging when you dig a little deeper as to what’s actually going on.

Hopefully later on we’ll see the city improvements for future attacks!

Yeah fungi are pretty hellish just look at what the real world cordyceps does to ants and other insects. Basically turns ants into zombies and redirects them to the colony and releases spores that infects any other incests in the vincinity
Posted on 4/23/25 at 4:47 pm to dawgfan24348
it’s worse even than that…cordyceps invades the ant body and takes over function of everything but the brain, directs the ant to the precise altitude and alignment on a plant to sprout the fruiting body, cements the ant to the stem, and then consumes the ant and releases spores directly over the ant colony to start the process all over again. Fungi are more closely related to animals than plants
