This show, imo, had one of the greatest pilot episodes in the history of TV. I mean it just doesn't get much better. But this is the episode the internet is raving about.

Non gay related, I was just waiting to that zombie to bust out from under those rocks and snag/bite Ellie.

Big time deviation from the source material. In the game, Bill refers to Frank as his “partner”. He’s already gone by the time Joel and Ellie get there. You don’t find out that Bill and Frank were lovers until you come across Frank, who committed suicide, later on. In his suicide note, he explains that he grew to hate Bill and his rules and wanted to get out of the town. He stole Bill’s battery, but got bit doing so and hung himself before he turned.

Also what “start with” means.

They pretty much “implied“ that was necking & petting and oral sex. You probably assumed something else.

ITT southern baws whose daddies were against interracial marriage and whose granddaddies were against de-segregation explain to us how, no, this time they are totally right and it’s normal to be “weirded out” by gays (they’re different from us!!!)

They’re on the right side of history for real this time, they promise!

Touching and emotional, telling a love story from scratch in an hour that brought real stakes at the end. Beautiful writing and acting.

Perfectly said, Damy. The frick cares about progressing a character when you can pull off something so original & unique and fit it into the story line. That was legitimately great

One of the best episodes of TV I’ve seen in awhile.

Friend, you should go over to the PoliBoard. You would fit right in with all the Neanderthals.

How was it original or unique?

Decent episode, nothing more.

ETA: I have always had a soft spot for Linda Ronstadt though

I really cringed when Frank got on top of Bill. Literal flashbacks to the rape scene from Outlander (I almost barfed). Thought the episode had an agenda but turned out really nice. The music was perfect and the relationship spoke to the need for companionship during an apocalypse. I’m now a huge Linda Ronstadt fan as well.

We all know that over 50% of the population is LGTBQWTF. If Ron Swanson hadn’t played a gay dude for representation, society as we know it would have been over. So brave. I am in awe, and was not the least bit bored by this episode (I’m lying; this was some of the worst filler shite that I’ve ever seen).

I knew this board would be one of the only places on the internet not raving about this episode, but you’re right, that was some brilliant storytelling.

I’ll be honest, after their first kiss and then post-shower scene I was like damn they had to go there. But then as the episode progressed, I was pretty captivated by their story

And this is the difference between featuring a gay couple and budging you with their homosexuality. I don't have a problem with 90% of the episode. It was a touching and emotional love story. I don't need to spend 10 minutes watching them roll around in bed together. People don't want that shite.

Before I watched, I saw how many posts were in this thread. “This is going to be an epic episode”, I said.

As much as I didn’t want to watch the two dudes kissing and being on top of each other, it wasn’t over the top.

The entire episode could have been a 20 minute breakaway from the main storyline

Just a brilliant acting performance by both men. If you were too caught up in the fact they were gay to enjoy the episode for what it was then I feel sorry for you.

pretty much agree with this.

i was mad about burrow/the bengals losing on some BS, then putting this on and seeing hairy dudes on top of each other set me off a bit. it wasn't a bad episode of television though.
