Wasn't interested. Daughters wanted to see it. Turned out to be a pretty good movie. Very long but really entertaining. Guy that played Snow knocked it out of the park.

I thought it was pretty solid also. I enjoyed Jason Schwartzman and Viola Davis' characters a lot.

I liked it

The worst part was Zeglers southern accent. That was pretty rough.

But I was entertained and it filled in some gaps and info about the history of the games

Just watched with the wife. I’ve always liked the hunger games so I enjoyed this a good bit. Kinda wish they’d take it a step further and do something with what exactly happened with 13. Might not be worth a book/movie though idk.

I still don’t get the appeal of Zegler. At all.

A singer able to perform well in West Side Story doesn’t mean she can be in a sci fi / action movie or a major Disney remake.

Apparently she does a significant amount of singing in this. Haven't seen it yet, but was told. Her number of tracks on the soundtrack on Spotify seems to confirm.

I read the book last year so a lot of things are still firmly in my mind.
I really hope the white roses have a major subarc.

She does and she’s a beautiful singer. I will likely listen to several songs on repeat.

As an actress she was very hit or miss. Some moments were great but IMO there were enough misses to take me out of the scene. She’s gorgeous, though, and I think she will develop her acting skills with time.

I hadn’t read the book (but now I want to) so I didn’t know what to expect. I enjoyed it.

Is this the precursor to the original 4?

I'm guessing how the games game to be and the likes?

It was more about how they evolved and how Snow came to power but there is a bit of origin story as well.

I haven’t seen the movie yet, and will probably just wait till it’s on streaming.

But I listened to the audio book about a year ago and wasn’t a big fan of how the story progressed (i went into the book thinking The Hunger Games Part 4).

Spoilers:

Once again, I haven’t seen the movie yet.
I personally thought after reading the book and knowing they were making a movie that it should have been made into a limited series. I know they went the film route because it could make more money that way (as of now the box office is hovering around the production cost).
A 3 episode limited series:
episode one 1- introduction of characters, development of the academy and how they are trying to revamp the hunger games.
Episode 2- the actual hunger games part
Episode 3- the aftermath of the hunger games and the fall out of snow getting convicted.
Over the 3 episodes you see the decent into madness by snow and his relationship with Lucy deteriorated.

I thought the movie did a pretty good job breaking down the "parts" of the story you suggested.

Spoiler alert:

They could have done a much better job explaining why she betrayed him in the end after everything he did for her.

I agree with the last part but you should put a spoiler warning, IMO.

Having not read the book I felt like there were pieces missing. I wondered if they were planning more prequel movies because, while I liked it, I felt a little unsatisfied at the end. I agree it would have been great as you suggested or maybe as 2 movies.

IMO, I could have wanted a movie that was just about the Snow family and their neighbors with hints of things to come.
Then move into Snow's friendship with (I don't remember his name, but he was (again IMO) important in the book and IMO more interesting that the girl.

The writer said it was only going to be one book. It was about Snow and his rise to power and who/what influenced him.

With that said, if she ever needed some more money I’m sure she could write a book and further connect this story to Hunger Games trilogy book series.

I mean, the whole story makes sense. It’s the slow fall into madness for Snow.

But being split into 3 episodes is based on the flow of the book. When reading the book everything building up to the hunger games was great, although short the games itself was good. But part 3 happens and it was so slow after a big action packed part. It basically had its climax and dragged you along for the next part of his life until you get another smaller climax.

Just saw this. Really enjoyed it.

Great descent into madness for snow.

However…

It went about 30 minutes too long.

I honestly didn’t even know this movie was out until The Pitch Meeting for it popped up for me on YouTube.

I enjoy
Ed it more than I thought I would. My biggest criticism is the ending felt extremely rushed.
