Just came on Cinemax. What a delightful movie, a fantastic comedy and homage to film with talented actors and a well written script. I miss movies like this.

'We are the same, Leo and Big Leo.'

Watched it a few months ago and it really holds up well. At this point in his career, Brando was being fed lines through an earpiece.

Just a nice little movie.

He and JT Walsh are my all time favorite character actors.

Own it. Have watched it many many times.

quote:

Carmine Sabatini : I want you to take this opportunity. Totally legitimate work for $1,000 dollars a week. And I know that you're not gonna disappoint me.

Clark Kellogg : Well, I don't see how I could say no.

Carmine Sabatini : [leans back in his chair]  This is not a yes.

[takes a walnut and cracks it open in his hand]

Carmine Sabatini : [still crushing the shell]  I want to hear yes.

One of the funniest throwaway lines in movie history is Paul Benedict as Prof. Fleeber when Broderick is explaining that his books were stolen:

"Oh this is out of Dickens. You were robbed by street urchins; you have a wicked stepfather!"

He killed his role.

quote:

I want my money and my stuff. Now!

My money or I call the cops!

No English!

Knock it off! I know who you are!

Where's my stuff?

Upstairs. Give me a hand with this.

You crazy?

I victimized you in a moment of

weakness and now justice is done.

Give me a hand.

My money.

Do you have my money?

Watch your step. Floors are wet.

- Give me the money immediately...

- I'd love to do just that.

However...

...here we have an awkward moment.

Tragically...

...I have a gambling problem.

I placed a wager on a horse.

Predictably.

You lost my money on a horse?

All of it?

Now, I'm not sure it was a horse.

Oh, God. Oh, God.

I swear, it was a responsible bet.

It was a 4-to-1 shot. What can I say?

We took a beating.

Wife’s and my favorite quotes that we repeat often:

“Two espressos, he says.”
“Sugah, now I’m happy. I got the Mona Lisa.”
“Chlorine. Bad for the eyes.”
“Carmine said one boy. Here are two.”

Our favorite parts:

“I’m Tina Sabatini, Carmine Sabatini’s only daughter.”
“I didn’t know Mr. Sabatini had a daughter. Only.”

And

“If you weren't all those things, do you think Vic would be out this afternoon getting you a gun permit?”
“A gun permit? I don't need a gun permit!”
“You have to have one if you're going to be carrying a gun. Clark, people are chasing you.”

Have to say, it's refreshing to see the love for this film. When it came out a lot of people dismissed it as a money grab, putting Brando in as a knockoff of his famous character. We watch it annually, at the least.

It's always amazed me that David Newman's Danny Elfmanesque music score wasn't by Elfman itself. It's got Pee Wee's Big Adventure and Beetlejuice all over it.
