I saw someone earlier in the thread speculate that Rey and Kylo Ren could be siblings. I'm probably reading too much into it, but I feel like the trailer kind of hinted to it as well

Does Fin have Luke's lightsaber?

Also, is that a new Deathstar?

The fact is Obi Wan should have been Anakin's friend first and mentor second.

One of the things that lead Anikin to the dark side was Obi Wan doing just that. A prime example of this was his ignoring Anikin's relationship with Padme.

He should have ignored any signs that Anakin was power hungry and wanted more than the life of an ordinary Jedi.

That's exactly what he did. It was obvious early on from Anikin's early teen days that he was not Jedi material. He was from the start driven by passion and fear more than anything. The problem was that the Jedi were blind to it, blinded by the Dark Side in fact. And this state of blindness was no accident but rather was orchestrated and driven by the Sith. This had been a slow and steady process for generations. And by the time of Darth Plagius, who was the Sith Lord when Anikin was born, the Jedi were very limited in their ability to use the Force.

The Star Wars Saga is George Lucas' vision. That includes the prequels. Sure there were missteps along the way, but those of you who want to act like the prequels never happened or you're not a true Star Wars fan if you accept the prequels are ridiculous. You can't ignore the first three acts in a story just because you didn't like them as much as you did the final three.

I have to ask...how old are you? Have to have grown up with the prequels or something.

I think they may be Leia and Han's kids the thing is she looked like she had never seen Han before, so that shot down my theory.

I've heard speculation that it is.

Sort of. I read something yesterday saying that the "New Order" had basically taken a frozen planet (maybe Hoth?) and turned it into a super sized Death Star-like battle station capable of destroying an entire star system.

His vision was corrupted by the dark side of merchandising. He split with the co creator who made Empire and New Hope so great, and it showed in Return and was exasperated in the prequels. The prequels could have been better movies than the originals, instead they dialogue sucked and the addition of stupid characters like the slobbering frog leader and Jar Jar ruined it. Then you have Vader go from good to killing little kids in five minutes of screen time. I just don't see it. Horrible horrible story line.

Well since that cat is out of the bag. In reference to Luke's original name (by Abrams not the First Order) the planet is called 'Starkiller' base. You can draw your own conclusions from that.

(I read this yesterday in a major publication, the name came from an official media interview not a leak or spoiler site.. Will remove if greater than 3 downvotes)

Read the Revenge of the Sith novel, and you'll see that Dooku let Anakin win with the intent of being captured by the Republic not murdered. Sidious also let Windu win because he knew Anakin was on his way. Can they take that into an entirely different direction someday? Yes. Will they? I don't know.

Never read the books, and i thought this was very obvious watching the movie.

I know in the original story line Han & Leia had a set of twins who grew up and were trained by Luke at the new Jedi academy he set up. One of them eventually turned to the Dark Side and became a Sith Lord named Darth Caedus.

But now that the old story line is no longer cannon, these characters may not even exist now.

I read a lot of the books too, I never read that one, but knew of it. I wish they had made the Timothy Zahn trilogy, I read it in high school and re-read it last year. Awesome story, with grand Admiral Thrawn and all.

I saw you bring up Plageus as well, Phantom Menance could have been a great movie if it centered on the "Phantom Menace" which was the Sith's great rise in Power. Instead they spent nearly half the movie setting up a Pod Race and Underwater annoying fish people.

I guess it's possible since the old story is no longer valid. At one point the story had him being killed by none other than Darth Vader shortly before the Battle of Yavin. But if in the new story he's still alive at the time of Ep. VII, he'd be about 90 years old.

Agree with you 100%. The story that was written for The Phantom Menace could have been perhaps the best Star Wars ever had they focused more on the rise of the Sith during this time, a process that had been going on since Darth Bane thousands of years before.

What's more important for the story is that not only were the Sith's mechanizations behind the scenes very interesting and pivotal to the story of the fall of the Republic and the Jedi with it, their actions also directly lead to the birth to the central character in the whole Star Wars story, Anakin Skywalker.

ETA: One of the things that has always really interested me about this time is that Palpatine is not yet the top Dark Lord of the Sith. Instead he was still an apprentice with a master. It's not until after he becomes Chancellor that he becomes the Sith Lord.

That's a great question. I don't recall seeing or hearing anything about him in this latest movie so I'm guessing he won't.
