You're kind of proving my point: No one believes in the Force. They think the Jedi and Sith as a whole are largely a myth, at least from the Force sense. Random people from all over the galaxy are awakened to the Force's presence and quickly realize the Force is real. The Force awakens in order to balance itself out from the great purge. I'm just thinking a large portion of the Galaxy just thought the Jedi were badasses that were wiped out and nothing more, and the Force is a mere myth.

I think we're actually in agreement and were just arguing semantics. I agree that the average person never really understood the whole "Force" aspect of things and by the time of the Battle of Yavin it had mostly passed into legend. All I was pointing out was that it was common knowledge around the galaxy that there was a Jedi order only a little over a generation before Episode VII. The Jedi, until they were virtually wiped out at the end of the Clone Wars, were very public figures who were universally known and in some cases, were virtually super stars to the public during the time of the Republic.

No, he died shortly before the Battle of Endor.

Wasn't he like centuries old?

A little over 900 years old if I remember correctly.

But when you do, tell me you don't want your future kid to have this reaction: LINK

Showing them chronologically destroys this. They're prequels for a reason.

I definitely think this film will end like Empire, considering they are filming VIII now. Should be a very dark set up for the next film. We'll meet the new characters, there will be battles, some bad stuff will go down, and then we'll find Luke and set up VIII.

Disney insider confirms:

The voice at the beginning asking daisy ridley who she is is that of lupita nyogo'o...we don't see her in the trailer.

They confirmed the voice at the end was in fact Carrie Fisher saying "the force is calling to you...let it in"

Well, to be honest, Empire had the better ending. I mean, Luke gets his hand cut off, finds out Vader's his father, Han gets frozen and taken away by Boba Fett. It ends on such a down note. I mean, that's what life is, a series of down endings. All "Jedi" had was a bunch of Muppets.

Benicio del Toro already signed on for a new character in VIII and they are casting another female important role. Hmmm.

The Star Wars Saga is episodes 1-6, so watch them all in that order. You'll appreciate the sequels more.

Oh of course when I do finally have kids I'll show them the originals first. But for me rewatching all of them before the new movie I'll watch them in chronological order

The only thing that makes me nervous about all of this is Disney. I'm nervous they'll try and tone down the darkness and grit.

That said, everything I've seen up to this point has been spectacular.

And I'll say it again, I can to fricking wait to see this movie.

The Star Wars Saga is George Lucas' vision. That includes the prequels. Sure there were missteps along the way, but those of you who want to act like the prequels never happened or you're not a true Star Wars fan if you accept the prequels are ridiculous. You can't ignore the first three acts in a story just because you didn't like them as much as you did the final three.

The good news about this is Star Wars has fricked up royally trying to be kid friendly. Avengers they do this, but Star Wars I think they should know better. I mean, shite, people who were kids during the original are in their 50s now. I doubt they're all that concerned with it being overly dark.

I'm not ignoring them. The question was in which order should they be watched. They should be watched in the order they were released.

The emperor who was hidden from the public as a Sith Lord, Vader who by all accounts was simply giving orders at the highest levels of command and ensuring they were followed, so the general public wouldn't know him, Obi-Wan who was hidden in a desert, and Yoda hidden in a swamp. And a new hope takes place a generation after the slaughter of the Jedi.

Good points. A New Hope takes place 19 years after the Fall of the Republic and the slaughter of the Jedi via Order 66 and Anakin turning to the Dark Side and becoming Darth Vader.

quote:

As far as the public is concerned, the Jedi were a once noble order dedicated to the force who went insane, slaughtered their own children, and then were executed as terrorists. There's a no reason anyone would know of the Sith other than Rumors. And empire propaganda would've all but wiped the Jedi off the earth.

Another good point. The only people who knew anything about the Sith were those in the very highest of Imperial circles.

quote:

Luke's exploits would've been only known by a small number of people and the true identity of the emperor and Vader to almost no one. It's easy to see why the vast majority of the universe's general public might have forgotten all this by now. Plus, it's easy for people to forget or ignore tails of insanely powerful masters of a magical force that allows them to do all kinds of shite normal people csnt do.

Again, good points. I will point out though that among the Rebels, it was widely known that Luke was a Jedi.

quote:

Plus it's been 2 or 3 generations since the Jedi were widely known. More than enough time for propaganda and shite to murk up the memories.

This new movie is set 30 years after the Battle of Endor where Vader & Sidious died. The whole original Trilogy takes place over about a 4 year span if I remember correctly. The fall of the Republic was 19 years before The Battle of Yavin in A New Hope. So from the time of the fall of the Republic until this movie we're looking at a timespan of about roughly 53 years. And if you want to go back to the very beginning, The Phantom Menace, it takes place 32 years before A New Hope so the whole Star Wars sage covers a time span of about 66 or so years.

quote:

I'm also excited to see where they go with Luke.

He wasn't a life long trained Jedi master. He was a prodigy who barely had it figured out before his dad, a true trained bad arse, saved the day. Anikan is the true hero of the series. Had he not decided to help his son, Luke would've just died. So with everyone else dead, how does Luke deal with his powers, especially if they're amplified. And how will the new force users learn and grow.

you bring up an excellent point. The real central figure of the whole Star Wars sage is Anakin/Darth Vader. His story is what the whole thing is about. And while a lot of people hate the prequels, they're pivotal to the whole story because its in those movies where we learn what went into making Anakin Skywalker become Darth Vader.
