Yes and a number of people died because they sheltered in a culvert that flooded. Crazy weatherman told people to get on the road to flee. For a while the tornado went down I40 which became jammed. A bunch of people made it to the airport where they were let in to shelter in the tunnels leading to the terminal. I was in Edmond. I only heard sirens and saw nothing. 2013 was a bad year.

That was the last year Mike Bettis of the Weather Channel chased storms. He was flipped over and over in his Suburban like a rag doll.

It is one of my favorite movies.

Caught this a few years ago and realized that Jo’s dad who gets pulled out of the storm cellar in the opening scene played Lance Harbor’s dad in Varsity Blues

Good catch. There are a lot of actors on Jonas crew you don’t really notice.. Jake Busey (Gary’s son) , Anthony Rapp (played Tony on Dazed and Confused, Abraham Benrubi (was my lineman on The Program).

Guys ever go to Twister . . . Ride It at Universal? Since been replaced by yet another 3D motion simulator ride (the Jimmy Fallon race through New York).

Great nostalgia experience.

It’s a great flick, saw it in theatres when I was 14.

The only bad thing about the movie is Cary Elwes accent....

Never understood why they had to hate on Jonas so much. Supposedly it's all for the good of mankind..dude went out and single handedly got big money to invest in this research. Bill had walked away from it so that shows you his commitment to the overall morale.

Jonas wasn't in it for the good of mankind, he only wanted the attention and glory - was in it for himself. He stole the tech for Dorothy and made Dotty.
Cared more about corporate sponsorships and stolen tech than helping others.
It was all a show for him, had no natural instincts.

Bill was guts, instincts, and wanted to help people. He left his team originally because him and Jo were too passionate and it was becoming bad for the team dynamic. If anything, Bill was willing to sacrifice his passion for the betterment of his team.

If you think otherwise, you either haven't seen the movie in a long time or your morals are questionable.

Anyways...the end of the movie was always fantastical and Hollywood to me as I always thought there is no way a) a tornado looks like that on the inside and b) no one could possibly survive something like that to tell us what it looks like on the inside

Still, the chances of surviving being inside an EF-5 tornado, completely exposed, are so astronomically low. Even if one could tie themselves down like Bill and Jo did and avoid being thrown by the tornado, the likelihood is that the person would still be impaled by debris. Being hit by debris is probably what kills most people in tornadoes, and that’s why meteorologists encourage people to wear helmets when seeking shelter from a tornado.

I love Twister, but it has a lot of scientific inaccuracies. First, at the end the tornado goes from being an EF-5 strength tornado to completely dissipating in seconds. That’s highly unlikely to happen. Second, the movie portrays the National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL) as being able to predict the strength of a tornado before it occurs, which also is not accurate. Tornadoes are not rated until after they occur. Those are the two main points that always bother me. I still love the movie, though.

Also, cows dont just leisurely float through the air in a violent storm like that.
