Sullivan was gay. Do you remember his tryhard monologue after the Rugby game?

I didnt really either until i watched the link i posted above.

I remember there being a slight undertone, but I think most of the things in that link are reaching beyond what's there.

It's interesting for sure, but I don't believe him to be gay at all...not even a little bit. Like I said, I think it has more to do with him not being as interested in his girlfriend and more focused on other shite (work, mob shite with Frank, the rat, etc.)...he just doesn't care about her.

Yeah, the link is a bit of a reach. I don't think Sullivan has the ability to be a complete man because his life is dishonest. So is Costagan's, but his motives are just.

But Sullivan harping on the "homo" firemen is a good point, kind of a stereotypical thing for a repressed gay guy to do. Who knows.

Another question i forgot, the Costello guy who was shot by the cops when Queenan was killed, was he or was he not a rat? I know they said he was, but Costello dismissed it as misdirection. I don't think he was, but why didn't he rat out Costagan?

I've wondered about that too. I think he may have been connected to Frank's FBI involvement, or was even an agent. As a fellow undercover LE agent, he would have wanted to protect Billy. If he was FBI, Frank would have known and therefore would have known he wasn't the rat they were looking for.

We're really baited into wondering why he does this, as the guy dies before he can tell Costagan. This was obviously intended to leave a huge question mark for the viewer, which is answered when we find out Frank is an FBI informant.

IMO, anyway. The only other possibility is that he just liked Billy for whatever reason, but they wouldn't leave us hanging with the death scene if that were the case.

No, Delahunt was a loyal Costello crew member. The cops farked his face into a police uniform to try to draw attention away from Costigan. Costello didn't buy into the misinformation.

Didn't Delahunt realize that he texted Billy the wrong address on Washburn St? Wasn't that what he was questioning Billy about as he died?

I know he didn't buy it

Yes, which is how he figured out that Billy was the undercover, so why didn't he tell Costello? Unless he was also a rat. It kinda pissed me off that that wasn't tied up.

Ok, Sullivan was not gay. He cracked the fireman joke because he was trying to fit in with his peers, other cops, while not being a cop.

Just like Billy has to try and fit in with criminals while not being a criminal.

The ED is from the stress of Sullivan trying to please two bosses, and not get caught.
Billy has the same problem, but his manifests in panic attacks and insomnia.

These parallels are to show that it doesn't matter what side you are really on, the dishonesty eventually gets to you. It is literally destroying these two men.

ETA: Thinking back, Delahunt was undercover. He was BPD. However, Nicholson was looking for a Statie. He knew there was still a rat.

And I'm not sure about Delahunt. Said he was Boston PD, not Statie, so it's not hard to believe that the Staties didn't know about him.
They absolutely wouldn't know about him. Too dangerous.

I believe he was an undercover for Boston PD or the FBI, it's the only explanation as to why he wouldn't reveal Costagan as the rat.

I always figured he was also an informant.
