I found it and showed it to my geography class since it was the day before spring break and we’d just finished our unit on Russia. The language was coarser than I was expecting but overall I felt it was semi accurate while being pretty damn hilarious. Anybody else really like this movie?

It’s fricking hilarious.

ETA: why are you showing a geo class a movie much more suited for a government class

It’s from the guy who created The Thick of It and Veep. Really should have expected the coarse language.

But yeah, it’s good.

Not that this is an incredibly high bar or anything, but it was one of the best comedies of the 2010s

It’s a great movie

Hilariously dark humor.

Their debate over getting a doctor.

It’s hilarious.

I don’t know if I would’ve found it as funny in High School though, I feel like it’s a bit more sophisticated and subtle humor that may not translate as well to a younger audience? Honestly not sure, it’s been awhile since I’ve seen it but this makes me want to watch again

Nikita Khrushchev: What was the name of the - that woman who gave evidence against the doctors?

Georgy Malenkov: Timashuk.

Lavrentiy Beria: Yes. She's got everything we require for the situation. The location of all the remaining doctors in the Moscow area, a proven desire to survive and a talent for fellatio.

Anastas Mikoyan: Yeah, right, she gets my vote.

Nicolai Bulganin: Good. Let her find us some doctors.

Anastas Mikoyan: Yeah, and if it goes badly, we pin it all on Lady Suck Suck.

Kaganovich: Then we shoot her.

Georgy Malenkov: You see? We're better as a committee.

The whole damn movie is a masterpiece of dark humor, political satire, and an apt demonstration of how an autocracy (especially under Stalin) was an utter nightmare for literally everyone

ETA: I love it now but not sure I would’ve liked it as much in High school, not fully understanding the context of post World War II and what Russia was like under Stalin

Hilarious and was absolutely shocked at how much they based the movie on actual historical events.

History Buffs on Youtube does an excellent job breaking down all the accuracies and inaccuracies. Great film

Hilarious satire.

When they were cleaning out Stalins house and all the servants were shot, then the guys shooting them were shot.

As a history and dark humor fan I thought that movie was fricking awesome. Steve Buscemi and Jason Isaacs were hilarious

I’d also recommend Hail Caesar! to anyone who enjoyed the death of Stalin

Highly underrated Coen Bros movie

The funniest part about this movie is how shockingly accurate it is regarding the transition. If you read about the power struggle going on and the fear and suspicion the Soviet leaders had for both Stalin and each other, you will see how this could potentially be called a documentary instead of a comedy. The world they made for themselves lends itself to being humorous for those on the outside able to look in.

I thought that it was brilliant. They somehow made a movie with Mel Brooks humor, while also being pretty damn historically accurate.
