Just look at The Odyssey. Social media would've had you thinking it was heading to be a flop, yet it's going to finish at 1.8B
What about Supergirl? Or Mando? Or all of the other numerous recent examples?
Just because one Juggernaut was able to overcome it all, doesn't make it obvious that the tides have abated.
I'm out on this show, but I don't want it to fail. Pierre is a good actor, and hope he uses this as a springboard.
I would, however, like to see him play one role where he isn't "cliche oppressed black man trope". I thought this was going to be just that role. So forgive me for being disappointed.

I have no problem with race being brought into this by the mom.
What they got wrong was how she spoke. That was supposed to be in 1996, I believe. She sounded very much like how a black woman in the present would gripe.

My point is that social media isn't real life. Supergirl failed because no one cared and the movie sucked for those that did go watch. Not because youtubers were hating on it.

Isn't this putting the actions and dialogue of his mother on him? The same mother shown actively ruining her family? When does John act oppressed?

Youtubers dont exist in a vacuum. They have audiences.
While they may not be able to overcome something like an Odyssey, comic book stuff is niche enough that they could definitely impact. . .especially considering the Venn diagram of the audience they appeal to, and who DC/Marvel requires to exist.

Correct but was that not introduce in the early 70's? They felt (and warranted) a need for that then. When you set it in modern times, it's not as impactful as it was then.The John Stewart of now did not face the prejudice that the John Stewart of then did.

Y'all don't get tired of the same racial discourse over and over again in movies, television shows, sports, and every other part of society? It's fricking exhausting. It's the same bullshite narrative every time, wypipo are supremacists, black people are always oppressed somehow, some way. Black trauma is the only story Hollywood wants to tell about black people. They don't see blacks as anything but victims to be exploited for cash and Oscars. None of it ever does anything except reinforce the stereotypes and divide people. It's just dumb. Even space people must hear about their plight from an abusive black woman. Speaking of black women, when will they take responsibility for the state of affairs in the black community?

I thought the episode was fine. Had to have one that explained Stewart's background.. real simple.
Crazy parents
Sniper with a ton of patience.
Creative artist (may lead to architecture)
Takes orders well
Likes birds (hope he and Hawkgirl become a thing)
His constructs seem more advanced than others we've seen.
I can see some of the complaints... but im more of a "wait till the end" kind of person to see how the story plays out.
