re: The Boys Season 2 (Spoilers) Episode 8 “What I Know”

The one question I have is why would Stan Edgar (a half-black dude) be cool with overseeing the production of a literal Aryan master race army?
Did I miss something? Is he not in-the-know, or does he just not give a shite?

He has to have his own motive. Stormfront probably plans to control this army but doesn’t mean she actually will.
But then again she knows he likely knows her true history and thus wouldn’t actually go along with this. Not sure what’s going to happen there.

I’m thinking he knows what’s going on on a macro level (giving CV to adults instead of having to wait for it work on babies and having to deal with raising them) but doesn’t know the micro - Stormfront is only testing it on white people to build an Aryan Army.
But that all brings me back to Lamplighter. What did The Boys have on him? Was he forced out or did he voluntarily walk away from The Seven? Why was he at the facility? Did he know Stormfront’s true plan? Was he down with the cause?
This episode was so great because not only did it answer questions we already had, but it asked and answered new ones we didn’t even know were in the playbook and now launch me a whole new series of questions as well.
Hell at the end of last season we had all the questions about Becca and her kid, but now, who really gives a frick?
And I still think Edgar’s hand is going to be forced because Elena is going to force it. She won’t make it through this season if I were a betting man but she’s gonna bring the whole house of cards down with her.

Really enjoyed that episode. One of the better episodes of the series so far. Really interested in seeing what they have planned with Lamplighter, and I’m glad they showed the adult Eleven (great name) at the end, I thought she was a one episode write off for a minute.

They knew they wanted an established, serious actor to play the real antagonist for the pivotal 3 to 5 (or 6) seasons. Giancarlo Esposito will be done with BCS by the beginning of season 3. They snatched him up and put him under contract for the next few seasons. They will either retcon his role or how he fits into Vought.
Regardless, if we get multiple seasons of Gus Fring + Black Noir it will be awesome!

quote:
what we're seeing is a coup against Homelander, and Stormfront pulling all the strings. She's going to use Maeve, Starlight, ATrain, and her laserproof tits to break Homelander. I think we'll see she's been working alongside Edgar all along to achieve a shared goal. No way he lets her make that anti-Vaught speech without him knowing ahead of time.
Not so sure on that. Edgar is more of an anonymous money hound, definitely doesn't meet the traditional Nazi profile.
Stormfront is allowed, because she already knows firsthand the Nazi background to the company (the tale Edgar told Homelander, she probably came and recited to Edgar before coming in). She's on social media a LOT, and probably said she'd spill the beans if they didn't take her back.
"Liberty"= sounds a whole lot like the actual Vaught story, changing his background to be as American as apple pie. Makes me think she's actually German, not just a Neo Nazi... she might be the first Super. You mention 70 years, I'm leaning more like 80+... she's Red Skull, the V-2, the atomic research, etc. Came over with Vaught when he swapped sides.
Starlight breaking the Compound V story likely makes her position stronger.
I don't think Stormfront is pulling Maeve's strings, or responsible for anything with A-Train, beyond agreeing he has to go. I think she's more a rival to Edgar than complicit with him, and I do think she wants to turn him against the company to support her coup and take the company for herself.
I think Black Noir is Edgar's personal killswitch. All those studies with Gecko, I think they're figuring out ways to kill the Supers (instead of tweaking the formula), and whatever they learn, it gets fed to Black Noir. Thus, the "Batman dossiers" theory... he will have the knowledge on how to take every Super down.
I think he will do just that; and we'll see him do that on a few. Maeve is Homelander's target, so it won't be her. Might be a way of silencing A-Train or The Deep.

It makes sense why she loves him. He is nazi "perfection" right? Tall, Blonde, Blue-eyed Superman just like the those idiots were trying to make for real in the 40's.
It does make sense why she likes him but again I go back to Captain America.. he was a white, blonde superman, technically the idea of the nazis but stood against everything the nazis stood for.
I think they couldve played with that here. We know Homelander is evil but have him be his own type of evil, a Pro American and Pro himself, wanting to be loved by Americans at every turn that he would be radically and violently against something like Nazism.

There’s def something up with the damn Fresca.
1. The deep plot with the Chirch is so weird. The scenes are like they’re from a different show entirely.
2. Stormfront most assuredly scared of Oedipus Complex, clingy, psychopathic Homelander. You can’t to see it.
3. Lamplighter... Baton Twirler.
4. Damn Frenchie. You fricked shite up for your druggie friend.
5. Lamplighter sympathy is... weird.
6.: Yea MM... That was a goddamn tentacle penis around your neck.
7. Lamplighter part of the team now? New direction indeed.
8. Oh damn. Making Stormfront Vaught’s wife. Woah. And definitely changing things by tying Homelander and SF together.
Fantastic episode. Ashmore makes a great addition to the cast. The head popping chick has got to be a new wildcard weapon to use against the Supes right?

The girl that plays Kimiko can get it btw, I didn’t realize she was in Suicide Squad either.

Have to say, I was 100% right on Stormfront (who she is), and I really think I was right on how she got (back) in.
Edgar backed off of Butcher due to the threat of bad publicity, he probably did the same with Stormfront for that same reason. She'd spill the Nazi super secrets if they didn't let her in.
I think now, his solution to that issue is- Black Noir. Someone asked if BN has his own "Ashley", I don't think so. I think he answers solely to Edgar.
Still can't decide if it will be BN, or Starlight that ultimately takes Stormfront out. My take is still Starlight, as they keep hinting that Starlight needs a powersource to work with. The more Stormfront attacks her, the more she can give back... she's the perfect anti-Stormfront.
I also ain't quite sold on Homelander buying into the whole Nazi scheme; he's flaky as shite but he's also pretty fricking wily when he wants to explore something. He also hates being "handled", as we saw in Season 1.
Really wouldn't shock me if he's playing her... he has no desire to lead the master race, he's a god. There AREN'T any equals to him, other than his son. His goal was to get good ratings and popularity, and he's already schemed to create "supervillians" for him to defeat. He now has a potentially great one, and he's fully aware of her plans. He just needs her to go ahead and start shite, so he can swoop in as the hero.

2nd'meh 'episode in a row, imo.
The murder of the guy for his car should weigh extra heavy on Starlight. They didn't even TRY to start the van which simply rolled over, did they ? I'll bet it would have started up just fine, and they didn't even need to kill some random father for his POS sedan. They could have just driven Huey to the hospital themselves.
Why didn't the hospital supes go after them in the 'secure' pharmacy ? I don't get why letting them out enabled them to use their powers, but they weren't able to use them before. There was nothing special about the doors, clearly. That was lame.
I'm already tired of Deep and A-Train. Lame sub characters which had better be kept around for some stellar pay off, or else it's just filler with no point.

Not sure how or why a shockwave would kill it, but it fits within the story.

They were drugged up and wandering around loose. In individual cells, they were isolated and Lamplighter went in one-on-one with the staff. He'd incinerate whoever cut up. Out of the cells, he didn't have his lighter when she got out, and when she let the others out, there were too many wandering around at once to deal with.
quote:Seems pretty clear that they have a part to play with the cult church... considering they have just introduced that plot, and both are now involved.

Chill out, and drink a Fresca.

From a psych perspective, I’m intrigued by the Fresca. A Train wasn’t coming to Deep’s Supeintology shindig until he drank the Fresca, so I’m convinced they’re dosing them with something.

I dunno. I think Homelander has this desperate need to have a woman “Mother” him. And he tends to fill that with women he also is sexually attracted to. I don’t think that need he has can be understated in that when he gets it, he’s SUPER obsessive and controlling about it.
But he’s also a massive narcissist. He won’t be able to handle sharing the spotlight. Or having someone he can’t explicitly control.
I think if he melts down and fights back it’ll be for self-serving reasons. I have no reason to think he gives two shits about the Nazi stuff. He doesn’t care what happens to humans.
I wish we could see a scenario where he loses his powers. Just to see how he would have to change and adapt.

Great episode, probably my favorite of the season. Am I the only one who was a tiny bit sad seeing Starlight losing her way?
Has anyone caught any of the after-show episodes? Karen Fukuhara is so damn bubbly and likeable, you forget that her character unapologetically ripped a dude's face off
