I could see Stan getting killed in a way that the FBI never picks up the trsil to the Jennings, only to have something happen and they get popped a couple of decades later.

I agree. Nobody gets arrested. O don’t think they end up back in Russia either. I think Liz and Stan probably have to die in some way, but I can see Philip, Paige(unconverted) and Henry walking off into the sunset after the fall, fully assimilated, having finally transformed into real “The Americans.”


Stan has to die for plot reasons—he knows too much now for any of them to get away if he’s still alive. Liz has to die for her sins, and she could find some last bit of redemption by sacrificing herself to save, not her country, but her family(likely Page). Philip could certainly die—and would be willing to—but the last few seasons have been dealing with his long redemptive arc, and I don’t think he necessarily requires the same sacrifice of his life to achieve it. But he and Liz could certainly both die, leaving Page and Henry as “The Americans.”

But Stan is already discussing his theory about Philip and Elizabeth with his colleagues at the FBI so a plot device of killing Stan out of necessity “because he knows too much” simply doesn’t make any sense.
