I think he did have a crush on her before finding out but don't see how it undermindes the argument you guys are having.

It ties into a bit of what you were saying about letting him keep the Skywalker name.

Personally I never found it strange but maybe it's my background. I have a pretty common Japanese last name. It's a family name / clan that did well surviving all the turmoil so it's wide spread.

I run into other people with the same last name pretty often in the work place, there are some celebrities with the same last name, but none of them are even remotely actually related to me.

I figure in the whole wide galaxy there's probably a thousand, if not more, Skywalkers. since everyone thought Padme died without giving birth no one ever bothered to try to follow up on every Skywalker out there.

I think from what we've seen so far, even with all their advance tech they don't really seem to have a super robust centralized database. It's pretty compartmentalized which could explain why they didn't just issue an order to check up on everyone with the last name.

Anyway I don't really want to go down this rabbit hole too much but really it comes down to the OT and PT for the most part being within bounds that is easy to suspend belief and forgive small inconsistencies or problems to enjoy the overall story.

But when it comes to this show, the bad writing makes it very hard to suspend belief....and once that happens you can't help but start to nitpick everything that annoys you.

What a shock, a scumbag spinning for another scumbag.

I watched that earlier and I was thinking to myself if campea hates this show it has to be really bad. The dude actually liked The Last Jedi

This aspect of the story changing really is not well documented at all. It is widely believed he changed this after Empire.

I know that I have read early versions of Empire named his sister Nellith and Vader wasn’t originally his father. These things were altered, of course. But Luke/Leia and love triangle stuff remained late in the movie process, with the first Hoth kiss staying in the final film. The alternate scene of that is not any better.

Luke mentally calls out to Leia at the end of ESB. She isn’t just sensing him out of the blue. It is not an indication of them being made siblings during Empire.

No, she senses him because she’s able to. He couldn’t call out to Han and Han hear him. The beats go hand in hand. When the hint of Vader being Luke’s dad with Luke’s face in the helmet is shown it’s immediately followed by Yoda saying “there is another Skywalker”. The reveal of Vader being Luke’s father is directly followed by the reveal that Leia can feel Luke in danger. This is on purpose, the family beats are 1 for 1.
