As the decade ends, more of the conversation seems to be about how people watch movies (Netflix vs. theatres) than movies themselves. So we're going to bring it back to the actual films over the next few days as the writers of RogerEbert.com reveal our staff choices for the best of the 2010s.

1. The Tree of Life
2. Moonlight
3. Inside Llewyn Davis
4. Mad Max: Fury Road
5. Phantom Thread

Rest of the list

What are your best films of the decade?

I've seen three of those. I guess I don't watch many movies.

Boyhood is on the list which is hilarious because that movie was awful, and Get Out is ahead of both The Master and The Social Network which is also a total joke.

I've only seen 12 of those. Don't agree with most of them. Tree of Life would be high on my list though.

I have to say that this list is pretty terrible but I want to enjoy a movie, not have it tell me how I suck.

no order
- Grand Budapest Hotel
- Way Way Back
- Baby Driver
- Walter Mitty (and I really wanted it hate it and turned around and really enjoyed it)
- Whiplash
- John Wick
- Big Sick
- Won't you be my neighbor

No Nightcrawler on the list at all? Or Her?

I mean, it's an attempt, and there are a ton of great films out there.

I do agree with Tree of Life in the Top 5, and Probably Mad Max, but not the other 3.
I always think when you do a "Decade List" part of the job is to define the decade, not just list the best films.

fricking hell that list looks worse than my toilet after I had Taco Bell for lunch and Chinese food for supper in the same day.

The Tree of Life, Under the Skin, The Master and Roma would all be in my top 25 as well. The rest would be different.

A few snubs: Prisoners - Burning - Ex Machina - Mud - Whiplash - The Cabin in the Woods - Edge of Tomorrow - Sicario - Moonrise Kingdom

For the first time I agree; that list perfectly sums up this past decade in movies in all its crappy glory.

The Master is considered a Top 10 film of this decade?

I love me some PTA but that movie was awful.

The decade was filmmakers that I liked were shown in all their unrestrained excess...PTA, Terrance Malik, etc.

Inherent Vice was really bad and that made it. They put Melancholia when Von trier had at least two better movies and nothing from Yorgos Lanthimos. Villeneuve only had Sicario, which was great, but could have had one or two other movies as well.
