Don't get me wrong -- I like Forrest Gump; it's a great movie. Pulp Fiction is one of my favorites.

But Shawshank is better than both.

Personally, I think Shawshank should've won Best Picture, Hanks should've won Best Actor, Freeman should've won Best Supporting Actor, Pulp Fiction should've won Best Original Screenplay, and Tarantino should've won Best Director.

I completely forgot Quiz Show came out in '95.

Phenomenal movie.

The fact that Shawshank won zero Oscars is the biggest travesty in the history of cinema, imo.

The whole movie is incredible. It's one of those films that you don't understand that you can be so tense for little visually happening. Great movie, and I just really enjoy the feeling I get from it, and I feel like it's extremely unique.

All of this.

This probably should of won Best Picture.

Will watch tomorrow.

What the hell is people 's problem with True Lies?

It's like the pinnacle Arnold movie. Plus Tom Arnold is hilarious.

The Lion King, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Ed Wood, True Lies, Bullets Over Broadway, Quiz Show, Leon, Stargate

(Also Blank Check, Blue Chips, Little Giants, Street Fighter, and The Chase what a crazy year ) - And New Nightmare. And perhaps the most misunderstood film of all time - Baby's Day Out.

And Clerks, Muriel's Wedding, Natural Born Killers, The Crow, The Mask, Ace Ventura, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Hudsucker Proxy, In the Mouth of Madness (the last great Carpenter movie), Shallow Grave, the final 2 movies of the Trois Coleurs triolgy: Red and White, Eat Drink Man Woman, Pret a Porter, The Paper, and The Last f'n Seduction.

Hell, even The Ref is a fun movie. 1994 was chock full of great movies, no matter what your bag is.

Shawshank is way overrated by people. it's the ultimate people pleaser film, and is fun to watch, but overall it's kind of meh.

Thank you. It's pleasing to watch, and I enjoyed it. But it's far from a landmark film.

Gump just hasn't aged that well,

Since, as far as I'm concerned, I thought of it as mediocre at best at the time, that's not good.

Pulp Fiction is too "Taratino-esque" to be an impactful film. It's super fun to watch but it's fairly shallow. For PF, Tarantino is a Michael Bay for vocabulary and language and film/genre references. Great movie, but not something that I would say is "the best" of the year. Appropriately, it should win for script, that's what it does best.

I understand your point, but I nevertheless think of it as the most influential film of the '90's. And I am far from a Tarantino fanboy.

To me these should have won...

Best Movie: Shawshank Redemption
Best Director: Tarantino-Pulp Fiction
Best Actor: Morgan Freeman-Shawshank Redemption
Best Supporting Actor: Gary Sinise-Forrest Gump
Adapted Screenplay: Forrest Gump
Best Film Editing: Shawshank Redemption

However, I am fine with the winners that they had for all them. Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction, and Forrest Gump were all perfect perfect movies that happened to come out at the same time.

Personally I like shawshank and pulp fiction better than gump, but no way should shawshank have won best picture that year. It was either gonna be pulp fiction or gump, and I have no problem with gump winning. Gump won for the same reason titanic won, a big ambitious movie that despite some flaws was an enjoyable epic movie that audiences loved.

Pulp fiction is the greatest original screenplay ever.

Not sure why people here are discounting true lies, it's pretty well revered for an action flick. You can make an argument it's one of Arnold's top 3 movies.

Yep, I love Shawshank but objectively Forrest Gump is an excellent epic level masterpiece.

Pulp Fiction was by far the best movie that came out in 1994. Shawshank was a very good movie and Forrest Gump was a really charming film but Pulp Fiction is a masterpiece from modern cinema that will be remembered 100 years from now. Forrest Gump beating out Pulp Fiction for Best Picture in 1994 is the equivalent of The French Connection winning Best Picture over A Clockwork Orange in 1971.

Shawshank is a piece of shite movie. Any high school AV club member could have directed Freeman and Robbins through that mediocre script. The reason it didn't win shite is because Stephen King did the entirety of the work for the movie before the movie was even a concept.

The Green Mile is a thousand times better take on the situational drama presented in Shawshank.

Forrest Gump is my favorite movie of all time.

Pulp Fiction is the only other one that has an argument.
