Correct. I rewatched Terminator 1 recently, it was quite good, especially for 1984. T2 on the other hand is a frickikng masterpiece. It's so good it makes T1 better in retrospect too.

I actually thought it was pretty good. I don't get all the hate for this.

This franchise is dead and embarrassing. Why can't we get new shite? T2 was over 20 years ago. Time to move on.
New shite please.
New shite please.

It's all a part of the deconstruction of Western society. They want to destroy the foundational narratives that bind us together. Whether it be desecrating the legacies of the founding fathers, renaming Columbus Day, or as seemingly inconsequential as destroying media franchises, all of this stuff is being done on purpose as a way to destroy our society so that the global power players can usher in their version of what they want for us.
Also, Columbus didn’t discover America and was a total POS, even by old world standards. Didn’t even get to main land America until his 3rd trip, and everyone pretty much hated him. So frick him I'm all for renaming that holiday

So this dude thinks there’s a Hollywood conspiracy to eliminate our culture and you think I’m the crazy one?
All i said was Columbus is a POS who didn’t actually discover anything. The only reason he gets credit is because he manipulated the history books into writing it that way.
That’s just true, rename it to conquistadors day or explorers day if you want.

I think you just have to remember where you are. For many here facts and logic have no place, they are permanently in their feelings because right wing media have manipulated them to such an extent that they believe every little thing is a slight or an attack on them. It’s how Fox and Rush keep them compliant and voting against their own interests.

I agree. Most of these guys are just like the SJW crybabies they claim they can't stand.
But the "I will fight scene" made me cring.

These people are just dissecting and analyzing wy a movie is good or bad. They maybe SJW, they may not. But who they are is not relevant if they are right.

You should stay away from PT

Well, this thread is certainly a much bigger shitshow than the movie was.

It really went off the rails

It bombed even harder than projections.

On way to $27 million opening weekend. On way to be a bigger bomb than Dark Phoenix.

Making a “future war” sequel with Christian Bale as John Connor didn’t do it. Making a time-twisting retcon, presumably modeled after Star Trek, didn’t do it. Bringing back the old gang for a passing-the-torch sequel like Star Wars: The Force Awakens didn’t do it.

The sheer hubris, to try to convince audiences three times in a row to want something that they clearly don’t want, at great expense, is frankly appalling.

That article has a ton of strong language for a box office report. It also doesn't mention that the studio was hoping for a $35-40 million debut. $27-28 million is disappointing, but not as massive a flop as that article makes it out to be. The amount they spent for that $35 million expected opening is pretty wild though.
The article also blames movies like this for the slow death of the movie-going experience. That seems like false causality. People are staying home. Hulu has T1 on it. Dark Fate will be on Amazon in 3 months. That convenience applied to all movies fis likely more responsible.
Implying that the masses stayed away because they had already sussed out the quality is stupid. Besides being the best reviewed terminator since T2, box office performance and film quality are often not correlative.

Director of the movie Tim Miller has commented on Connor's death
He hit the nail on the head there, definitely a slap in the face to audiences

quote:
How much did you debate John Connor's role in this film, and the decision to kill him off? Was there ever thought to have John be a bigger part of it?
quote:
You'd think it [killing John off] was probably a controversial decision, but it really wasn't. There was a lot of talk at the really early stages of should this new savior be someone who was connected to the Connors? Should it be John's daughter or something like that? Which I was always against, because I'm just not a fan of the Chosen One sort of movie as much as I am of a hero sort of rising to meet adversity, who could be an everyman or an everywoman. I identify with those people much more than I do with Neo in The Matrix or King Arthur or something like that. So I was all for this being some new person that wasn't connected to the Connors and had been chosen by the hand of fate.
quote:
We all knew a couple of things. One: Sarah Connor is not a happy character. She is best when she is driven and tragic and you need some rocket fuel for that. You can't have John be a 36-year-old accountant somewhere. And really, when you think about it, he could be sort of a pathetic figure as a man who had missed his moment in history and was relegated to this banal, ordinary existence, when in fact had Sarah not chosen to destroy Cyberdyne, he would be the leader of humanity. Nobody wants to see that. Secondly, [John's death], that's rocket fuel for Sarah. And lastly, you need to clear the stage for these new characters. They are not going to be able to have their moment, or come into their moment, with John hanging around. There's just no good way to do that. Everybody was in pretty strong agreement, and the way to start it, was really, you want to have this dramatic impact. You want to slap the audience in the face and say, "Wake up. This is going to be different." I feel like that accomplished that. I hate the violence of it. I hate the idea of a kid being shot, but the dramatic fuel that it gives the story is kind of undeniable.

Maybe so, but how would streaming affect theaters this negatively when video stores never did?
I had planned on seeing this movie but John's death made me decide no. The spoilers have been everywhere for months so I'm sure I'm not the only one.
It's not so much the quality of the film that bothers me. I wouldn't call Rambo last blood a cinematic masterpiece, but I did go see it and enjoyed it quite a bit. It's the slap in the face (as the movie's own director puts it) that makes me say, no. Not access to it later on or bad cgi in the trailers

I avoided spoilers and missed the opening scene of John dying, I just figured out he was dead as the film progressed. That may be the way they should have gone.
