It is so damn easy, it is now 2020. Yes Judgement day is avoid, but you know what? That just gave more time for the humans. Kind of like delaying the inevitable.

So what SHOULD have happen if anything at all, is John Connor passing the torch onto the NEXT savior of mankind of WHATEVER skin color and ethnicity.

My idea is to have a Terminator goes back into the past to kill the next savior of mainkind but since John is NOT in that loop, that Sky net never realized there was a John Connor.

John Connor could have trained up the next savior and died before the second Judgement day happened. It would have been the passing of the torch but nope. Nada.

Is blatantly recycling old stuff actually making something competently? I'd call that about as hacky as it gets.

This movie is going to flop and flop hard. After it's already disappointing roll out internationally this past week, the film is only projected to make $33 million this weekend here in the United States. That's down from the initial $40 million plus estimate from a couple of weeks back.

Hopefully this film will die a hard death and the studio executives at Paramount will finally let this franchise-that-never-was die with it.

I’ll raise a glass to that.

But this is the typical Hollywood playbook nowadays. Create a new set of films using diverse cast but at the same time leech of a previous successful brand. I wouldnt mind this new terminator movie if it was created in a new universe with a new storyline. But nooo, they weren’t confident enough to do it so they had to merge that with an established brand to pull in previous fans. It’s a con that people are waking up to.

And I’ll say this unapologetically. Putting in a cast for the sake of diversity is stupid. Because it’s doesnt fit the storyline and it hurts the movie overall. Of course, you have people saying “well, there’s no xyz in this movie. That’s because you must be anti xyz”. Oh , frick these sensitive spineless morons. If I don’t put chocolate on my prime ribs so that mean I hate chocolate? Yeah, nice logic. Each actor is like an ingredient and if you put the wrong ingredient to a recipe, it might not come out well. It’s common sense.

I think this is sometimes true, but in this case I don’t really see how it doesn’t fit the storyline. Judgment Day is a global event, why wouldn’t there be important people from all over the world in the aftermath?

I think people sometimes assign “SJW” reasons for the kind of diversity you’re talking about that isn’t necessarily there. This movie clearly was not trying to make a political statement, outside maybe 1 or 2 throwaway lines. They’re just looking to maximize their profit by including as many different backgrounds as possible in hopes of bringing in that demographic. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn’t. In this case it didn’t feel ham fisted at all to me the way it has in other properties.

I think some on this board are so overly sensitive because of the times it HAS been ham fisted that they’re looking to pile on anywhere and everywhere they sense it happening again.

I just think it’s important to be objective and fair with this stuff, and before you attack me on this just for the record I had a discussion with a friend yesterday defending Once Upon A Time In Hollywood after she said it was misogynistic. This stuff goes both ways, I just don’t see how you can look at Dark Fate and with a straight face claim it’s overtly political.

Totally fair to bash killing John (speaking of, no fricking way that T-800 doesn’t kill Sarah Conner too/have a bunch of backup murders to carry out a la the T-X) totally fair to say it’s not a creative idea, but what’s not fair is to say it’s a bad movie/SJW because it clearly isn’t.
