Ted needs to go back to the US at some point - his son is there.
I think it’s setting up that he and Rebecca move to America eventually, and Roy becomes the manager of AFC Richmond.
Maybe she leaves the ownership to Higgins.
Jamie - who knows he’s basically a fringe character now unfortunately.

Jamie seems to have dropped off the face of the earth after taking to the doctor. Maybe things will change with Roy being a coach

This season has gotten better each episode. Roy fricking Kent is a great character. This show makes me smile throughout the entire episode.

Yeah they really nerfed Jamie hard - his scenes from S1 have basically been transformed into character development for Nate.
I also miss Rupert - the show is currently without a villain and doesn’t have the same amount of tension - no main character is struggling with much of anything.

I don’t know what happen with the first two episodes but the last 3 have been fantastic.

yeah, theres really not much going on. the whole season has felt very contrived. im still enjoying it, but theres totally a sophomore slump happening.

They got too much done in the first season. Too many characters experienced too much growth. Didn't have a lot to explore in S2.

What was with the random couple in the middle of the episode talking about how they met? Very odd

his commentary this week was hilarious. I really like what they can do with him from that platform of tv host, but now he will have much better opportunities for his humor.

That was a rom-com trope - silly but fit the theme of the episode.

So when do we get the scene of Roy talking to the Doc? Hell they can do almost an entire episode of that and I’d love it.

That was a tribute to When Harry Met Sally. There is no sophomore slump in season 2 either. There are no expectations to subvert. It's not a normal show. It wasn't meant to be a normal show with normal scripts and normal beginnings and endings. The very reason it is different is what makes it enjoyable, along with the writing.

Great episode. I’ll admit there’s something about this show that hits me in the feels each week, but Ep 5s end was brilliant.

Id watch an hour of the Roy Kent Soccer Today or whatever show

I guess I missed it on the first watch but the new team sponsor is the dating app.

Yeah they sort of slipped that in there without much of an explanation.

did you watch the first season? the one with season long character arcs and an actual plotline? cause i did, and i liked that show.
this new season seems to be subverting those expectations pretty well.

So there's no plotline or character arc for anyone this season? According to you? Ridiculous assertion.

strawman, but ill roll with it. most of whats happening in s2 is a string of weak (imo) B plots w/o anything tying them all together. most episodes so far are pretty self contained. so compared to s1? id answer hardly.

youre the one claiming the show was never meant to be "normal" despite all the evidence of s1 contradicting you.

Okay, let's go down the list.
1) Roy's transition from retired to announcer to coach and him finding his place in the world again.
2) Rebecca leaving behind the need to seek Revenge against her ex and opening herself up to dating and finding love again.
3) Nathan and his dealing with his own level of self-confidence and his place on the coaching staff.
4) The Doctor and her role in helping the team to ultimately become a better team and her initial inability/unwillingness to understand Ted.
5) Sam's journey to taking his place on the team and struggling with homesickness and his social responsibility to his country and family, Jaime's fall and possible redemption by becoming a team player for the first time in his life, Isaac struggling as team captain and weaving that back to Roy, who finds redemption in helping him.
6) Let's not forget Higgins, who after spending season 1 as a man cucked to Rebecca and his family, emerges as a family man and touchstone to the players. His relationship with his wife, who nobody thought was anything special, is revealed to be strong, sweet, and valuable, and something a lot of people don't possess.
Lastly, Ted's way of handling all these elements while dealing with a team that had set a record for ties, and a loss to break that streak. Dealing with this while away from his son and persevering while not freaking out. The show is not a normal sitcom format and payoff. It's not about the winning, it's about the people and the feeling you have while you watch them grow.
And I say you're wrong. 2 episodes were filmed apart from the rest of the season, but I would hardly call them contrived or weak. You're less than halfway done with the season, relax.
