Sydney in The Bear is one of the biggest villains in TV

Completely unlikable character. Somehow, some way, every time she fricks up (which is a regular occurrence) it’s not her fault. She then has the gall to get upset with Carmy for getting pissed at her for fricking shite up.
The shite she pulled in the last episode of the 2nd season should’ve gotten her arse fired. She completely disrespects Carmy and the fact that it’s his arse on the line, his name on the deed, his reputation on the line.
Not only did she pull some major shite-baggery in the kitchen, she seems to want to sabotage his personal life with his girlfriend.
Completely dislike her.
Eta: Carmy is the only one in the entire restaurant that has any idea what it takes to get a Michelin star. Yet she feels the need to constantly undermine him and question his authority in his own frickin restaurant. I wouldn’t be making her owner of shite if I were Carmy.

She is a classic deuteragonist and one that shifts support and opposition. She isn't a pure villain IMO but the shifting easily makes her unlikeable.

Don’t disagree with much of this.
But Carmy is a lunatic and a selfish arse.
He’s losing money by the buttloads and doesn’t care.
Ingredients he can’t afford and a different menu every day.
Oh well, not his money.
The show needs to end with him making roast beef sandwiches to make ends meet, not with a star.

“Yeah no like..yeah totally. All my fault chef.. yep. For sure. Yep… hey let’s talk later.. and then never actually talk and resolve the issues”
How Sydney would respond to this

Hey man
I'm not sure what show you're watching, but one of the major through-lines of The Bear is that Carmy, along with each person in his entire family, is a self-sabotaging arsehole. It's the premise.
Carmy's pursuit of greatness has been at the expense (literal and figurative) of everyone in his orbit. The show has not presented him as a "hero." He might send his employees to awesome restaurants and institutes all around the world, but he does not actually see or hear them when he needs to.
Sydney did not sabotage his relationship with Claire; he did.

Sydney = Skyler White explains the thread. It's stupid.

It may be, but he has to understand they need to crawl before they can walk. He's putting an unbelievable amount of pressure on a group of line cooks that basically have virtually zero formal training. Yes, some were given brief stints at high end places, but it was minimal at best. Him and Sydney are the only two in there that have the extensive kind of training of how to get a star and he wants to sprint right out of the gate.
Why is anyone surprised that she shifts opposition? Every time she brings him an idea, he essentially shoots it down and does whatever he wants to. They aren't making money because of his decisions. I'd be very hesitant to get into a partnership with someone like that.

She doesn’t get any flack for this and it pisses me off.
Sure, Carmy is self destructive. But she literally goads him into destructing personally in the midsts of his crisis because it benefits her. She’s so fricking entitled and not grateful for anything. I hate her lol.

Agreed!
The series is scoped to Carmy's perspective and viewpoint, so of course Sydney comes off as entitled and selfish. BUT if we take a step back or view the story through her perspective, she's actually a great friend and character.

I absolutely cannot stand Sydney, she grates on my nerves like no other, but yes this has bothered me.
I understand why they kept the kitchen staff for show purposes, but any chef like Carmy who wanted to execute a vision like he has would have brought in friends from other kitchens he has met along the way that were capable of doing this.
With what you have to work with, you have to start with a fairly set menu that only changes fully every month at most, and maybe you sub in a dish here and there.

Yeah I feel like some are just missing the point of the show. Carmy largely hates who he becomes to achieve the greatness. He is constantly fighting that version of himself with the other one that wants friends/family and a version of the kitchen that love each other. Sydney's character is entirely meant to be his reality check

She’s awful and every critic loves her
This show was a bore this season. It gives me too much anxiety.

The season was fine for me but it was pretty uneventful. Some well made TV in there, but lots of weak spots for sure.
I don't hate Syd as much as some, but I find her character pretty dull. Nervous, indecisive, not much evidence of brilliance. She's got a little bit of dry humor but not enough to make her interesting for long. I just think her story is pretty simplistic and she's not adding all that much right now.
However, Carm is pretty obnoxious when he's not cooking at this point. I get that it's his character, but this season was just pure boring, brooding self-indulgence. Pout for 30 minutes, yell at someone and hurt someone's feelings, 60 seconds of reconciliation and guidance, then repeat.
At some point in S1 or S2 there is a moment I liked where Carm is distracted and dismissive, but then his mind clears and he goes "I have time for this" (talking to Richie or Syd or someone). Poignant moment in the show for me. But as far as him maturing and advancing as a leader, it's just a lot of repetition and circular stuff since then. This season very likely being a filler season didn't help advance anyone IMO.

I have a few ideas why all the critics love her.

Why did they turn her into the wise lady, mother figure. She’s the youngest one there and giving everyone else advice about life and everything?
