The Delta Force guy Tom seems like he would wreck shop. It was cool hearing the young Rangers talking about being in awe of those guys.
He's a legit bad arse. If you got some extra time on your hands, he has an awesome podcast interview with Sean Ryan
Part 1
Part 2

I love how the Somalians claiming victory are still living in shite hole conditions over 30 years later

This documentary really drove home the point of how bad our nearly 100 year old policy of trying to intervene, help, and to impose western values across the world is. We send them aid. Their warlords steal it from the people. Then we try to supress the warlord to get the aid to those who need it. They fight us and hate us 30 years later. It’s crazy.
If the “cradle of civilization” wants to live in mudpits and tin huts and kill each other to infinity - frick it. Let them fight.

Fantastic interview. You really felt Tom’s emotions when he would choke up talking about his fallen comrades. I can’t imagine the horror those men went through, even after they made it back to base.

Tom’s Shawn Ryan interview was badass also. It’s an older one. Episode #77

also have my doubts about the claims of women and kids being gunned down indiscriminately from the Somali's. Erratic fire from the skinny's probably killed more innocent people than the Rangers.
In the book Black Hawk Down by Mark Bowden. One of the guys makes the comment that when the battle started you would think the women and children would run away but it was actually the opposite. He said Mothers came towards the battle with their kids and were willing to be human shields because they thought the Americans would not shoot them.

The Somali driver and the Somali fighter came across as that they would have been unsavory characters no matter when or where in history they were born.
The Somali cameraman genuinely seemed like a good guy who wanted the best for his country.

They were Kangs though, right? We should've never been there. Let those "cultured" places figure out their own problems. It's a no win situation for us and always has been. Some people just don't want help.

It's a shame because a couple years later we could've gone into Rwanda and saved a lot of lives.

But they’re kangz, right? I agree completely with letting them oxygen thieves kill themselves. They’re too stupid not to…

Was on TRAP team during benghazi. Got stood up and back down 3 times. frick Hillary.
She learned from her husband and Somalia.
I have friends that were AC-130H gunship pilots at the time. They had trained in the states with the 160th SOAR for operations in Somalia. They were not sent, because having a AC-130 in country was bad for optics and politics at the time. Bill removed a pretty large piece of the puzzle for keeping those rangers protected.
They ended up there later, one said he put 100 rounds of 105mm into Radio Mogadishu. Would have put 101, but they didn't have any left.
Also said they were tasked to takeoff at sunset and orbit at 5k' off the coast until sunrise. The sound of the motors all night would keep the locals at bay.

BUMP
Watched this yesterday. fricking EXCELLENT documentary. I thought they did a great job with telling both sides of the story. And I echo what a lot of other people in here said...it will piss you off for sure. But trying to at least view it partially from the native Somalis perspective, I at least get some of their feelings.
But those two dudes that joined up and fought for Aidid...something was off about them. They sure do have a very highly-inflated sense of themselves.
One thing that stood out to me was the absolute hatred from the soldiers on both sides. War is a crazy thing. Both thought they were right and both saw the enemy as lower than dirt. It would be interesting to see those guys in the same room now, three decades later.
I also felt like some of what the Somalis said was embellished a bit. I have no doubt that we killed some innocent civilians, but it seems like it was more based on what was going on and where the shooting was coming from rather than us just shooting women and children indiscrimantly.
I'll be watching the interview with Tom Satterly that was posted above soon. Very interested to listen to that, even though I know it will be a repeat of a lot of what was in the doc.
The Rangers, who are badasses themselves, being in complete awe of the Delta Force guys was very surreal to me. But cool nonetheless. I also didn't know that the Delta guys really didn't have an official title for their unit. That was new to me.
Just a great doc start to finish. And I am normally anti docuseries and would prefer just one doc.movie. But this is only three episodes of ~50 minutes each, so it's a pretty easy watch.
