Americans don't want to watch a flawless god; They want a flawed human being who defies the odds. This is why Batman will always win out

John campea and others have mentioned they've heard from some people that it's bad. I've said many times on here that I hope the movie is a huge success, but the footage has me concerned.

You ain’t the only one. I’ve been pretty vocal about it too. I reallyyyyy hope I’m wrong

That shifts as culture shifts.

Which is why I said early on this movie is certainly going for a pre-X-men take/aesthetic on comic book movies. Now, in the past that take was not successful at all (and led to some absolutely horrible content), so we will have to see what audiences accept/want.

To me this Superman movie appears to be a cultural barometer.

It'll be fun to follow, for sure. I also think Gunn's trying to build a new universe at a time that a lot of people are just burned out with this genre. He has his work cut-out for him.

There is a lot riding on the success of this movie. My fear is Gunn took the campiness too far. Early marvel movies had a way of toting the line between real life and comic book but made it work until GOTG of course.

We’ll see….. doesn’t seem like a lot of people really want this to succeed ( talking heads) I do.

Even if I got a free ticket I don't think I'd go see this in theaters. I'm waiting for streaming for sure.

way too campy for Superman.

Tell me you don't remember the 1978 Superman without telling me you don't remember it.

That's why the Reeves version was popular. He was a flawed, awkward person full of self doubt and struggling with his power, but was inherently caring and good natured. It brought a very human element to it other than a stupid cartoon dog. Batman is great for the same reasons. It's more about a man struggling with his demons than solely about costumes and gadgets and colorful villains. This is why most new Marvel movies suck. It becomes less about the human struggle and more about neato powers and expensive CG sequences.

It's not 1978 and modern audiences would not like it as much...and that wasn't THAT campy

It didn't have a dog, for instance

Thank goodness. Too many super hero movies. Time to come out with original shite.

There's plenty of original films being made. Are you actually supporting original films?

I didn't think that Man of Steel was a bad film.

I rank Pa Kent walking into a tornado while telling his kid not to save him as one of the top 5 all-time dumbest things seen on the big screen.

Richard Donner will likely have the best Superman feature film until the end of time.

It just is what it is. The character is very, very challenging. Batman has so much to work with and, in particular, such a great rogue's gallery, that a creator would have to work hard to make a bad Batman film.

Superman? Really the other way. There is a narrow range of great stories that, IMHO, can be told around the character (again, relative to Batman).

First off, how is this movie not in theaters today? It's a Friday, July 4th. "Truth, Justice, and the American Way".

Complete fail by the studio.

Definitely a dumb twist. Him dying from a heart attack was much more poignant as the most powerful being on earth could do nothing to save him. Also, the end fight destroying the city was obviously bad.

The issue with Superman has always been he’s overpowered. I thought Snyder did a good job of dealing with his struggle to find his place in the world and giving him a worthy adversary but ruined a lot of it with the over long fight at the end.

The shots of Lois just looking up while Supes fought in the city, in space, back in the city, etc were just dumb.

I think this movie looks bad. My friends and family who've mentioned it think it looks good. My father wants to go see it. His interests are usually limited to "chick and a gun" DVD cases. He sees as decent amount and is usually disappointed. He expressed no concerns ahead of this, though I'm sure that disappointment is still a likely outcome. All my normie friends who have mentioned it are excited. My comic book friends are giddy about the Morrison All-Star connections.

I am like your friends

But I am more cautious

I want this to be good so damn bad. . .but I am getting a bad feeling.
