If Superman opens big this weekend, as is now expected, it won’t be due to star power. International is much different than the domestic market. It's basically DOA in Asia and falling fast in Europe. Domestic will need to do all the heavy lifting

However, Gunn’s Superman was not able to best the massive $27.7 million preview box office of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, meaning that the 2016 movie will hold onto the record for best previews for a movie featuring the Man of Steel.


While early box office tracking for Superman suggested an opening weekend of around $100 million, those estimates have now risen to between $140 million and $150 million, thanks to the strong Thursday previews. Better than Lilo & stitch, Minecraft and Barbie..

I went out of my way to post in this thread as I'm not a movie junkie. I wouldn't know what makes for good plot devices, character arcs, themes, narratives, or musical scores. Having said that, this is one of the best super hero movies I've seen in a really long time and I think that's the point... someone like me who doesn't go into a movie with a critical eye enjoyed the hell out of this movie. I might even go a 2nd time to see it.
