Movie was fantastic. It did have a few pacing issues... but overall... it's a home run. Great base to build from. Lex Luthor, Lois Lane, Guy Gardner and Mr. Fantastic killed it in their roles. Knocked it out of the park. Krypto was great as well.

I enjoyed it, the family enjoyed it. There wasn't anything I was disappointed in, per se. I liked Corenswet far more than I thought I would and I feel like I haven't seen him specifically getting enough praise for coming in, post-Cavillgate, and nailing it. You can tell he really wanted to get the job done and I think he was tremendous.
See, I feel like Batman, is going to have an opportunity to really thrive in this universe. Hopefully they don't waste it.

Not sure which one is the official thread so I’ll copy and paste my thoughts from the other thread here:
Just got out. I fricking loved this movie. Had heart, was colorful, touch of nostalgia, and humor when needed. Loved at the end when they put in the parent reel to help him relax and it was the Kents. Lois and Lex were wonderful and Mr. Terrific stole the show. Stakes felt real.
Drunk Supergirl
That Krytpo dog is gonna sell millions of toys.
Part of what makes Smallville my favorite Superman property is how they touch on how different/difficult his life is because of his powers and his secret and this movie tapped into that.
Only thing woke in this movie was Jimmy not wanting to bang that instagram chick all weekend

No. They are VERY well done.

Gunn originally never wanted to do Superman. But said he decided to do it because he found an “out”. That out might be to make Superman’s dad an a-hole. Just like he did for GotG 2 with Star Lord. Maybe Gunn hates good dad role models and was able to do his thing with this. He also made his Kansas parents dumb hicks apparently. Gunn clearly has daddy issues.
Wtf? Did you actually watch the movie? The dad, his real dad on Earth, was the strong father that raised him to be the character he is in the film. Yeah, he's redneck, but he's in Cornfield USA. What did you expect?

Jimmy was great. He was a player and even Lois was like, how are you pulling these women. He was like a TD poster, super hot woman and he was put off because he didn’t like her toes.

I wrote that before I saw the movie. I saw the movie and loved it. I actually love what they did with both sets of parents in the context of the movie. Didn’t expect to.
I talked in depth about it in the other thread.

The way he was written has me convinced Gunn reads the OT

So additional thoughts after I have fermented (and read some of the other posts on TD)
The House of El as "villains" - touched on in Man of Steel, was a major plot point in Smallville.
Mr. Terrific is a recurring character in Justice League animated series.
Lex after real-estate - Superman 78, Superman Returns
The Kent's are salt of the earth, but a little too "hick" for my tastes. Closer to My Adventures with Superman. Smallville did them better.
Now, maybe the "hypno-glasses" were in the comics at some point, but that actually makes a TON of sense and easily explains why people can't figure out Clark is Superman.
I could really get into a Justice Gang movie. Fillion was great when he was on screen and he could carry such a vehicle. Plus, that is really in his GOTG wheelhouse.

Good but not great movie. Plot and jokes were a little weak but the performances from everyone really carried it until the third act. Third act was incredible and Hoult really shone as Luthor. All the cast was incredible, really.
Don’t really get the hate for the Kents. They were a little hickish but by the time Clark visits them and interacts with them they were totally endearing. Clark’s scene with Papa Kent in the third act was probably my favorite scene in the movie outside of Clark and Lois’ first scene together

He wasn't though. He says so in the movie. That was a ruse

I think a Michael Keaton like Batman would be just fine with this universe, a Bale type would struggle. Batman movies were more campy than this before Begins

Bale and Battinson would absolutely not fit.
But a Batman that’s more fantastical and leans into some of comic-y nature like Gunn just did with Superman would be fine. But I’m also someone that would rather see them focus on establishing Supes, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, a new Flash, the Justice Gang, etc. before they do Batman

Wrong. I loved the movie, but you are wrong.
They made them slow dullards that didn't even know how to use a phone.
Gunn purposely modeled them after Richard from the Stern Show's parents, who they constantly mock for being backwards roadkill-eating rednecks.
Good people, sure. But they fail every measure of what the Kents have always been.

First scene with them on the phone was awful, but the rest was fine IMO. Ole baw reminded me of my father in law.

Guy Gardner was my favorite part. I want to see him and Peacemaker.
I liked it better then most new supermen movies. I like that it was like the new spiderman in that there wasn't an orgin it just started.
But maybe there was too much thrown in. Like Super girl? Everyone freaking out about him. I guess she's still a secret?

I wrote this in the other thread. But there’s a very specific reason why the parents are the way they are. Both sets of parents. Whether you agree with it or not, that’s your opinion.
But the reason they are the way they are is because this movie is attempting to humanize Superman. Make him relatable. His parents are regular people. They’re regular people that you would see walking down the aisle at Walmart. They’re great people. They have great values and great morals. But they’re not super dad like Kevin Costner. His krypton parents are the way they are in order to give Superman more character. He’s not this God figure that’s meant to be a messiah or savior. He has weird fundamentalists Mormon type parents on krypton. He’s an average American child. Origin from a broken home. Adopted by average regular people.

Everyone freaking out about him.
I think the only reason they are freaking out about him is because Lex Luthor is, for lack of a better word, manipulating them. And he stopped one country from invading another country... which Luthor took offense to and planted questions in the government's mind. And it spiraled from there.
Once they found out the truth, they came back around pretty quickly.
