Chris Nolan was the best and worst thing that ever happened to WB/DC.
I typed this exact phrase out in response to MoS. I know you liked the film, but it was clear the influence Nolan's universe had on Snyder's vision, even back then.

Also, despite the revies, the film is tracking to make something like $115 million in the first weekend. This movie is review proof. It's more about word of mouth afterwards (like BvS) and how much it drops in week two. People planning to see the movie aren't suddenly going to not see it because Peter Travers thinks its garbage.
Pretty much this, I'm disappointed that it's getting bad reviews, but my girlfriend and I will still go and see it.

I'll see it, but the reviews from people I trust are dusappointing. I like will Smith but if he is the bright spot in the movie it has serious flaws

I'll believe it when I see it.

I'll be honest... the preview for Wonder Woman that dropped at SDCC looked f'n great.

Talked to a friend of mine who saw it early. He told me not to rush to the theater. If you hated Batman vs. Superman, you will probably hate this. Not as serious and dark but about as much depth in story.

For all his insane preparation, Leto’s Joker is basically just a 1930s gangster with green hair and bad tats; he never approaches the complexities of the men played by Jack Nicholson or Heath Ledger.

This was expected but still disappointing to hear.

I highly doubt I'll hate this near on the level of BvS, even if it's at the same level of plot incompetence. Seems like they're getting Harley right for the first time, Smith is apparently good as Deadshot, I've been waiting for a good Captain Boomerang for a while, and Leto's Joker seems like a respectable interpretation of the character and maybe the closest to his comic counterpart. All BvS got right was casting Affleck as Batman, and the rest was a total disaster. So I highly doubt this will be in the ballpark of it.

But I don't see how all those characters are good, yet the movie sucks.

If it's half as messy as BvS, I can see why.

Damn, even Grace Randolph review is brutal

frick it, I hated it - I'm going to kill it with fire at midnight-ish - if you haven't bought tickets yet downgrade to matinee #SuicideSquad

Not good if grace hates it lol. She was all about insinuating marvel paid off critics.

He told me to go see it at the 11AM matinee here in DC where tickets are $5.99 (extraordinary cheap for here. Most regular tix at 18.99)

quote:Oh, that's easy. Just watch the BvS theatrical cut. The first half of the movie is a convoluted mess. Lex is poorly done with unclear motivations. Even when there's an attempt to establish them, they're questionable at best. He makes bizarre decisions that make little sense. Superman is poorly done and makes bizarre decisions that make no sense. Those are just a couple of it's many problems.
But I don't see how all those characters are good, yet the movie sucks.
And yet, the action scenes are incredible. Ben Affleck looks great as Batman. He and Alfred are great together. The whole Batman setup shows promise. Wonder Woman looks great.
It's pretty simple, the movie had elements that were done well and others that were perplexing. People who believe the movie "sucks", believe the bad far outweighed the good.

You know, after watching the near 3 hour cut of "The Dark Knight Returns", I have to conclude not having Bruce Timm leading the DCEU is probably one of the top 10 biggest frick ups in film history.
Seeing it on the big screen was fricking amazing. It was everything BvS wasn't. The fight between the two was far superior in the animated version than in live action. And the thing is, I see really nothing in this movie that wouldn't translate perfectly to live action.
Instead they just jump into bed with the most reactionary director of all time who has no substance to him and doesn't understand anything about film and comics at large besides creating a cool looking shot.

Do we know that he wasn't offered? What if he has and wasn't interested?

If this thought even went through WB's mind, they would have never had Snyder leading the DCEU. WB has only proven themselves to be incredibly short sighted.
