Somehow people thought watchmen was good and he has been living off that for too long.
There are just some movies that really strike a chord with a lot of people and make a huge splash so big that waves and ripples can last for a very long time.
Watchmen and 300 were precedent setters for the action genre still fresh in the minds of many and unfortunately, Warner bros didn't really think far ahead enough to really gauge the idea of Superman being associated with brutal and graphic violence and the fact that he would do everything he could stop it. And then they failed to consider Snyder's storytelling and script writing chops being paired up with such a story driven property, a comic book character and the most iconic comic book character to boot.

I know. WTF is wrong with me talking about things I actually liked in Superman Returns. I fricking hated that movie. These fricking bad reviews have me all screwed up again.
Returns is looking better and better the more they stripmine Snyder's Superman and shoehorn stupid plot devices with him. Returns had a lot of problems but it got the sprit of Superman right. Snyder just overrated to it badly although I think that was just his usual self.
Hopefully once they shitcan Snyder, they'll hire Grant Morrison to write the script for the next Superman movie.
A Superman movie under the leadership of Grant Morrison and Geoff Johns would be money.

There probably isn't a better gif to sum up Snyder's approach.

Snyder lacks a deft touch and is devoid of any subtlety. He is the artistic equivalent of an NFL Super Bowl halftime show.

thanks to Tmobile Tuesday, get to see SS free with the wife.
had some friends that went to the last night showing and said it was nowhere what all the critics are saying, and they thought it was great - better than SvB - take it fwiw

That just shows how much he doesn't understand the character in every way. That gif says so so much in just 3 seconds.

Remember the scene when he caught the exploding space shuttle off the launch pad?
Why didn't he put out the fire?

I really don't think Snyder and Goyer put any more thought into Man of Steel than making it the absolute antithesis to Superman Returns. Well, he succeeded, but made a version of the character so unlikable that he betrays the very essence of the character. I was in disbelief when Superman and Lois start making out on top of the implied hundreds of thousands of corpses. No other version of the character would do such a thing.

That and use All-Star Superman as the template on what Superman should be. It's the best version of his character and Luthor's.

That's what I'm hearing as well. The few friends that have seen it said it was a fun movie.

THR article about the struggles of Suicide Squad. Good read.

A source with knowledge of events says Warners executives, nervous from the start, grew more anxious after they were blindsided and deeply rattled by the tepid response to BvS. "Kevin was really pissed about damage to the brand," says one executive close to the studio. A key concern for Warners executives was that Suicide Squad didn't deliver on the fun, edgy tone promised in the strong teaser trailer for the film. So while Ayer pursued his original vision, Warners set about working on a different cut, with an assist from Trailer Park, the company that had made the teaser.
By the time the film was done, multiple editors had been brought into the process, though only John Gilroy is credited. (A source says he left by the end of the process and that the final editor was Michael Tronick.) "When you have big tentpoles and time pressure, you pull in resources from every which way you can," says this source. "You can't do it the way it used to be, with one editor and one assistant editor."
In May, Ayer's more somber version and a lighter, studio-favored version were tested with audiences in Northern California. "If there are multiple opinions that aren't in sync, you go down multiple tracks — two tracks at least," says an insider. "That was the case here for a period of time, always trying to get to a place where you have consensus." Those associated with the film insist Ayer agreed to and participated in the process. Once feedback on the two versions was analyzed, it became clear it was possible to get to "a very common-ground place." (The studio-favored version with more characters introduced early in the film and jazzed-up graphics won.) Getting to that place of consensus, however, required millions of dollars worth of additional photography.

Amazing that none of that came out prior to the bad reviews. We heard about reshoots to add jokes/action and that was it.
Now that there are bad reviews... everybody saw it coming.

Guess there's not enough unfunny, ugly chicks as leads for the critics to blatantly lie and give a shitty movie good reviews. This movie is aimed at 16-30 yr old dudes....DEVILS!
Yes, you poor white kids, a totally underserved market in modern Hollywood.
I've got nothing invested in this film as it clearly wasn't made for me, and I've had little interest in it from the beginning. That said, I'm not going to celebrate its bad reviews. I want people to get the movies they want. The world is big enough, and there's enough cash out there, for every market to get films aimed at them. I genuinely want DC fans to have a good movie to enjoy.
But spare me the "oh, poor us" routine. Hollywood pursues 16-30 year old white men like no other demographic. A majority of blockbusters are aimed squarely at you. Then y'all flip out when there is a movie that ISN'T aimed at you. Lighten up.
Critics hate it. So what? Did you honestly think critics were gonna like this movie in the first place? They aren't LYING about their distaste for this film, though their disdain is emminently predictable. See the movie anyway if that's what you want. Don't substitute someone else judgment for your own. But also don't get upset that other people have different points of view.

People were going crazy after the reshoots were announced. Other people were calling them idiots for saying that reshoots mean anything. I was more concerned about the size of the reshoots, because apparently it seemed out of the ordinary. I had since calmed down and was excited for the movie, but many were concerned.
RLDSC has been concerned about this movie for awhile. He's been talking about it for a month when more and more clips started to come out. I was more optimistic ( I did show mild concern), but I think it's fair to say that from here on out we can expect bad reviews for DC movies and get surprised when we get positive ones.

John Campea's review is out. "I had fun, but the movie is a hot mess". "There was a lot of fun to be had." He praises the character chemistry. Praises Jai Courtney, which is a going trend now. Says the story is the weakness of the film. He actually likes the Joker, which has been a mixed bag. Says the Joker and HQ relationship was nailed. It seems like a lot of the comic guys are liking the Joker, so that's good.
