Stephen Colbert Test Show Info Reveals New Direction

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert premieres next Tuesday, but test shows are providing a glimpse at what's to come.
CNNMoney conducted interviews with attendees of recent test shows--episodes that aren't meant to air and give Colbert and his writers and crew a chance to try out material and format.
One attendee called Colbert "genuine" and said he didn't carry his "goofy persona" from his Comedy Central show. One bit is said to have played with that history, as he took a lie detector test to answer "Who is the real Stephen Colbert?" Another bit took shots at presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's evasive responses, which one viewer said "felt like an old Colbert thing." The test shows conducted interviews as well, with Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher and U.S. poet laureate Billy Collins.
Viewers passed along word of changes to the studio itself too. The Captain America shield and bookshelf appear to have come to CBS. The backdrop is a video screen that shows a sunny cityscape, as opposed to the nighttime skylines of most late shows, as well as pre-taped comedy bits. Colbert enters through a garage door, and the stage has a sign that reads "The Late Show with." Colbert stands directly under it.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will premiere on September 8 on CBS. The premiere week will include guests George Clooney and Scarlett Johansson.

As long as they don't follow the direction of the now awful Tonight Show it should be fine.

Are you talking about Jimmy Fallon?

Good. That was the most lame schtick of all time. I can't believe it lasted as long as it did. We get it, you don't like Bill O'Reilly and you don't mind being a little dishonest in your criticisms.

Jimmy is going to go easy on Colbert on his premiere night but the rest of the week NBC is bringing out big names. #ratingswar

They'll be so much singing and dancing it might as well be a 10 year old girls slumber party.

That's every night with Jimmy Fallon.

Fallon has funny some awfully funny bits and the musical numbers are pretty cool. Outside of that, his standup sucks and his interview skills (with the fake laughs) are just annoying.

Kimmel is still the best.

I think Kimmel is definitely the best right now, but Colbert could end up taking the throne. The guy is fantastic.

I guess we're not counting Conan since he's in basic cable purgatory? Coco is the GOAT.
He has lost some steam off his fastball in recent years. I think Craig Ferguson was the best in the game when he retired.

I'm surprised people actually still watch late night talk shows with all the viewing options there are out there these days.
I mean the best bits usually end up online the next day anyway.

I'm excited about this. I think it's going to be a great show.
I will say losing the Colbert character from The Colbert Show might end up as my most missed TV char of all time

Colbert will bury Fallon and I can't wait for it to happen.
