He's a flaming gay from the minute he's on screen and they make it painfully obvious how much he's trying to overcompensate for that in S1.
If that character doesn't set off a gaydar from S1E1 onward, you don't have a gaydar.

Just finished a rewatch as of yesterday.
It had been a while since I've watched it. And yeah, like so many have said there may have been some now obvious things that I missed when I first watched it.
When it first came out when I was in high school or colleage I knew quite a few buddies that loved Draper. And I got it. Cool job. Corner office in an NYC high-rise. Rich. Beautiful wife. Handsome guy that women threw themselves at. Gets to drink at work. And to this day, he can definitely be an extremely cool character.
Years later, when Hamm was doing an interview he mentioned how much he hated the character (not playing it, just how terrible of a person Draper was). I guess I didn't really get it until a rewatch.
The amount of what would be absolutely mortifying moments for me that he went through, like throwing up a funeral, getting knocked out by a bunch of hitchhikers, embarrassing yourself at work, all the infidelity, was astounding.
But it also very much in line with his character. I didn't realize until yesterday that he preached "Forward," until the very last episode. It was a really compelling, and probably pretty accurate, character. Someone that can do terrible things that hurt a lot of people, completely forget about it, feel guilty for a very short time when their behavior is called out, but then ultimately repeat the cycle over and over again.

Yea, I had no idea people missed that.
I'm sure it has been discussed but the actor's parents founded Pontchartrain Beach amusement park. Newman/Tulane kid. You can see him pretty regularly at his store on magazine (Hazelnut).

Kind of crazy they never brought him back towards the end given they did for other characters with similar smaller/side arcs

Agreed
Her being fawned over was ridiculous, and to this day I think her being cast in that role is one of only two character mistakes and miscasts of the show. She is one fugly bit(h. The other being Glen. That freak was a terrible actor.

To get a little philosophical here how don is viewed the difference between male adolescence and manhood.
Don lives a 100% self centered life with no regard for others even his family. And given his upbringing (no father figure and raised in a whorehouse it makes sense) when you are younger all you focus on is he knows what he wants and goes out and gets it no matter if it takes lying etc to get there. (Makes him perfect for advertising lol)
As an adult what you notice is the collateral damage.
Ted chough his kids etc.

Well that worked then, because she wasn't easy to look at.
Did I hear correctly that she previously dated Tom Cruise? If true, WTH was he thinking?
