According Stuckmann (who does not pander) that part of the movie was garbage, which strikes me as SJW. Everything else was great, particularly Luke and Kylo Ren. Not looking at other reviews since I trust Stuckmann’s taste and he doesn’t spoil things.

doesnt bother me if he's black, gay or black & gay...or whatever. his character was contrived and superfluous, and the actor playing him is terrible
take finn's entire storyline, give it to oscar isaac, and now you have a REALLY compelling character and the plot is 90% intact

Exactly. His character is actually offensive. It’s pandering of the highest order. (See “droid please” *cringe*).
He’s useless and I’m not sure why his character is needed outside of trying to appeal to as many different races as possible.
I have my tickets for Thursday and stayed away from spoilers so far, but he’s just a useless character so far.

I think that his character was more in retaliation from the prequel trilogy that the clones were stormtroopers. This led to most fans assuming in original trilogy that the Stormtroopers were all just clones, so who gives a shite anymore. Making him black also doubles down on this. It was a smart reversal, but they could have done it better.

You've only seen 1/3 of his story so far, and you've already determined he's useless. He actually had some importance in the TFA. When have we ever seen a Stormtrooper develop self-realization in Star Wars? I like that aspect.
Granted while his acting isn't outstanding how many actors from Star Wars have achieved anything Film wise outside of them? Besides Harrison Ford of course. Clearly acting isn't the only thing that matters, its about the story and what unfolds.

Oh I 100% agree. I mean it was expected when Disney took over. It’s what they do. They think for people to relate to a character, they need to look and act exactly like them.
I will still enjoy the hell out of Star Wars and the movies.
