If a writer saw the premier last night, there was no embargo. So...

Skipped to the bottom of the article to avoid spoilers.

It does a good job of hiding a big plot point if you don't want to see it.

I'm not reading the link but anyone that has done a full review that was there last night was invited by Disney and just sold their future invitations for clicks.

a-hole move.

The embargo is supposed to last until 12:01 tonight.

There was another review up by The Times UK but they took it down. Others are blogs. Not sure why Geekster would release 8 hours early.

Idk if this is a really good thing or a really meh thing. I was hoping it would be on par with New Hope but would be a little different.

Saying it's a remake of a New Hope doesn't upset me at all. I know that the second of these movies will be the true barometer of where this is all going, because Empire is still the best Star Wars movie ever made. If the 8th(?) movie can come close, or even better, equal it's greatness, the letdown of the prequels will fade and THEN i'll really start to get excited about this franchises's future.

The critics are going to eat the plot alive, the academy won't touch it for BP

This movie is the reason they expanded that max to ten nominees.

I'm afraid that they are making it too much like the original.

Not really spoilers but if you're super sensative I guess this is a warning?

We supposedly don't learn shite about Snoke, they don't even call him by name. Just like Palpatine in ANH, he's basically out there but we don't have a clue who/what he is. I'm all for some build up, but damn I really want to sink my teeth into the meat of the lore. I'm hoping for more fullfillment than just the unknown that will make me anxious for the next installment, which I feel like is all ANH gives.

ANH is great for the first installment of a trilogy. But this both is and isn't that. It's the start of a trilogy but also is the 7th in a film series with loads of other canon supporting it. I feel like we are too deep in the universe for it to pose only questions and give no satisfaction of answers. On the other hand, I guess the general movie audience does has to be approached as if they have little knowledge of the supporting canon.

*kicks rocks*

I think it's because early on JJ said he wanted to establish the characters and pose the questions and worked extensively with the writer of the next two, Rian Johnson.

Pretty much, JJ was a bit of a puss and knows he's not that strong of a writer and let Rian Johnson take the plot and characters to the next level.

That's acceptable. I would much prefer that than putting in place plot points that can't be undone. The only thing is that it is going to make it really hard for 8 to measure up, having to finish building those plot devices that otherwise should have been in 7.

Spoiler tag again:

These could totally be fake spoilers. Supposedly, just from what has been leaked/speculated, we don't know whose kid Rey is. But Kylo is openly referenced as Han and Leia's son; however, his birth name is Ben. Which is obviously curious for a few reasons. Ben in the former canon is Luke's son, which also just makes much more sense than Han naming his kid Ben.

I'm wondering how much they pull from scrapped canon. I could see Jacen Solo and Ben Skywalker kind of being merged into a single character, or one of them appearing in a later film.

There are no real spoilers in the 2 OP links.

Just because Jeroen Van Heel or you don't think the story is deep enough means jack IMO.

If it's a frame by frame of ANH, it's a good start. There is so much expanded universe if you want to get deep.

Star Wars (and Disney) for a new trilogy needs to go back to what made it successful to start. ANH was a standalone popcorn flick that set the landscape. Why should this movie be different?

The next 2 movies should explore the true character development. This guy gives the story a 5 because it mimics ANH? ANH story is a 10 and has seldom been successfully re-captured in other films - Matrix would be one.

No, but I've read the entire plot. Heavily detailed.

My argument isn't that ANH isn't good, I love ANH, it was great. It's that I only feel like that works as a maiden film breaking into a completely new universe, which ANH was. It sounds like this is basically doing that again, and possibly even covering less ground than ANH. I get that they are new characters, but a plot that only asks questions is going to feel like a whole lot of empty film this far into the universe. The dark side and the light isn't new to us anymore. There is no mystery there. These are small details that made ANH what it was, everything was foreign and mysterious, this film doesn't have those benefits.

I'm sure I will enjoy it regardless. I just hope that I leave feeling like the film was by itself worth the watch, and not just due to the speculation of what's next and another year of discussing if Snoke is Plagueis or Revan or insert other ancient Sith Lord.

Yeah, this is a positive thing. I have no problem with it being very much like the original. Give me good characters, pass the torch effectively, and a good set up. I don't need to see Snoke in this one and build him up as the trilogy goes on. Don't blow your load here. Just have Kylo Ren hunting down our heroes as I suspected would happen. I'd like for it to be a glorious chase film and reestablish what was great in the original trilogy. From what I'm hearing, they nailed it with Rey herself, which alone makes it better than any of the prequels.

It does in a different way. We've lost faith in the franchise, and this film's primary purpose is to restore it. They know exactly what we want, and it seems as if they're giving it to the fans. If it turns out exactly as I hope (which nothing what I've heard makes me doubt it), then we're in for a wonderful trilogy. In a good trilogy, the first typically is the weakest since they have to establish a lot of things and organically. The second film is when you go nuts and ballsy with the concept, and I'm sure they've had enough feedback from Return of the Jedi to correct it's problems in the final chapter of this trilogy.

In fact I think not only do they have to fix the problems with the prequels, but the problems in Return of the Jedi as well. I'm almost sure they're going to kill Han in this movie like he should have been in the original trilogy, which is why Harrison has been such a vocal fan of how the film went. I'm still highly looking forward to it. Hopefully the T-Meter is looking good when I wake up tomorrow.
