SPOILERS:
I've read the whole plot and I'm even more excited to see it. Yea it does seem a lot like a new hope (desert planet, droid with a secret for a certain person, padawan kills leader [more like son kills father, but there's a parallel there], "Death Star" destroyed, etc) but it's new characters setting up an epic trilogy. ANH had a clean cut ending because while Lucas has the trilogy and prequel trilogies planned, he didn't know if he could make them. This trilogy is planned and scheduled to the T. This isn't a stand alone film, it's the beginning of a new journey in this universe. I'm okay with the passing of the torch so to speak and JJ is basically saying this is a new era of Star Wars. This is Rey and Ren's story with Luke playing a bigger role down the line. A familiar storyline like ANH serves to bridge the gap between what we know and what we are moving towards.

So I saw where in the last bit of the movie that Kylo Ren is unmasked. Does this mean he will remain unmasked in the future episodes? If so, that's disappointing because I liked the mask.

The more scenes I see of Kylo, especially the big one, I just dislike the character more.
The big scene seems like a mix of whiney Anakin from episode 3 and Boba Fett dying to the freakin sarlacc...

Supposedly Supreme Leader Snoke's theme song is the same music that was playing in Episode III when Palpatine talks about Darth Plagueis.
Ren also says "the Supreme Leader is wise" I'm a possible nod to "Plagueis the wise".
