I feel like one of the reasons they saved Luke was to give Hamill more time to get into fighting shape. That said, I would be fine with him showing his power in different ways (using the force to crash Star Destroyers or something).
But that final shot man, it was amazing.
And Hamill was certainly not in worse shape than Carrie Fisher was before the events of this film. Hamill looks great now though.

He got in great shape for this movie. Saving Luke was just how the script worked. This was Han's movie. It would be hard for Han to steal the show if Jedi Master and hero of the Galaxy Luke Skywalker was next to him.

Yeah Man Carrie fisher sucks in the movie because she looks like shite. Same thing with Steve Buscemi he's fricking awful because he's the ugliest son of a bitch in Hollywood.

Yes. When it is disturbing and distracting, I fully expect it to be an issue when it comes to the overall aesthetic and storyline of a "film."
It was none of those things. That's why nobody is agreeing with you.

I think they were trying to push the comedy card way too much. In the originals, we got comedy bits through Han Solo's sarcasm but they really were reaching with the comedy tidbits in this one.
I think so in certain parts. For the most part, it worked well, but there were a few that fell flat. But it was nothing that bothered me.

Just got home from seeing it and the girlfriend and I loved it.
and
at people who can't just sit down and enjoy a fun space adventure.

There is a difference in losing weight and being able to fight a saber duel. Did he have longer hair in the film compared to the picture on the right or was I Imagining things?

I think he had a princess leia fantasy that will never come true and he's bent on it now. Sorry Ross.

Yeah it was longer in the film. That picture was early in production.

I can see either him or Poe co-piloting with Chewie.
Lando is the only co-pilot Chewie should have. Speaking of returning original characters, I'd be okay with force ghost Yoda still talking to Luke.

That's the problem for some people. Some people judge it like they just got out of the Martian or The Room or another indie drama and expect the same thing. Some people want different things out of movies and when they dont get them they shite all over it while others who can switch between different genres of film, can appreciate how great of a film it was.
Every movie has flaws. This one is plot and some dialogue issues. Indie dramas have no action and drag in parts. Anyone can pick apart anything about a movie. Not everyone will like every movie. Hell in another thread, two guys hated Mad Max Fury Road and it was amazing to me.

I really hope Lucas will write a detailed review sharing his thoughts on the film and explain the direction he would have taken things. Sadly, I think he is going to retreat Luke style.

Don't tell blue boy. If he sees how bad Billy Dee Williams looks he might have a heart attack in the movie theater.

haha. star wars isnt even out in US a half a day and this thread already has 17 pages.
just getting home.
the new cast is superb. boyega, ridley, and oscar isaac (sp?) are all really cast to perfection.
the movie was great. certain aspects of the plot were embarrassingly similar to new hope. nevertheless, extremely well done. as the movie went on i began to wonder - where are the scenes with Luke!? man, the ending was epic. i hope luke has a very prominent role in the next movie.
very sad seeing han solo die like that

Hamill and Ford both looked like the natural older versions of their characters.
For some reason, though, I just can't see Leia in Carrie anymore - she seems like a completely different person.

Just got home and I thought it was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.
My minor complaints are frivolous things like: How did they see those planets being destroyed in the sky on Maz's planet when light and sound doesn't work that way at all. They would see that millions of years from that distance right?
Then again, It's a fricking movie just go with it!.. I thought to my self.
I think anyone and everyone would be doig themselves a disservice by not giving this film a chance. Yes it was very similar to A New Hope, Yes Kylo was a bit lacking, Yes I think they had to limit dialogue for Fisher because she sucks arse..but you know what!? This movie is on par with the original three episodes and for that I am greatful!

Very heartbreaking scene. Very tough to watch when Han touches Kylo's face before he falls....damn. But his death was needed for story purposes and to show people that this Star Wars saga no one is safe and that it isn't fricking around.

I wonder what Yoda and Obi-Wan would think of how Luke failed to revive the Jedi order after promising to pass on what he learned. If Luke were to fall off that cliff, the last knowledge of the Jedi would be erased. I'm also curious what Vader would think of his grandson. Was this what he wanted Luke to be like?

Interesting thoughts. But i have faith in Rian Johnson. He wrote and directed Looper and hasnt made a bad movie. He has a great foundation to build on and he will take some risks with the characters and plot, especially since he's writing VIII and XI.

I agree with you 100%.
Mad Max isn't my type of movie, but I respect it for the genre it represents and understand why people like it a whole lot. I watch many genres and expect different things from each to comprise a good movie.
Because someone didn't want to see ugly Adam Driver or aging Carrie Fisher or Star Wars cliches doesn't make this movie bad. In fact, it delivered on probably every level a Star Wars fan wanted. It went back to its roots on what made the franchise a juggernaut. If someone doesn't like this movie, then write off Star Wars and watch what you enjoy.
