Kylo really isn't trained properly
Kylo is an amateur like Rey, he just had a bit of a head start on her.
He was able to Force freeze individuals and suspend blaster shots in the middle of the air with little effort. It's evident that he's some training and has been at this a while.
If Luke has been gone for years, and Luke partially trained Kylo, then that's additional evidence that Kylo has been honing his skills with the Force for years.
And yet, here we have Rey, who thought the Force was a myth in the first half of the film - proceeds to pick up light saber for the first time and destroy Kylo.
It's ridiculous.

It's seems 50% of your dislike for the movie comes from the aesthetic appeal of Driver and Fisher.
It's really disturbing, and none of these faggity film crusaders have said jack shite about it. Geez. I can't imagine why.

Will Episode 8 be the first film that picks up minutes after the one before it? I will be pissed if they don't show Luke's first conversation with Rey and fast-forward 6 months into her training.

He's still fighting this internal battle though. As long as he doesn't feel threatened by another's power, he can focus. Otherwise, he's been all over the place. His roid rage showed that.

No, it's not. My previous post.

I think too many people are making this argument about Kylo and not Rey. Lightsaber fighting isn't about how good you are with a sword, it's about how you use the force to help you anticipate and influence your moves. That precedent is set when Luke is having to deflect the floating ball with the helmet covering his eyes.
Rey just became more in tune with the force quicker after she touched Luke's lightsaber and went through that trial/revelation scene. The force AWAKENED in her. We haven't seen that happen before and that's why a lot of people aren't accepting it. Because we learned something new about the force that wasn't established before this movie.

I think 90% of what Kylo does is self taught. He has a highly flawed understanding of the Force, from both the Jedi and Sith perspective. He is very conflicted and hasn't been taught properly. He's certainly got raw power and learned to channel that in ways.
And this brings us to Rey. Rey is resourceful and feisty from when we first meet her. Not a stretch when she picks up a lightsaber she trusts her instincts and is able to fight Kylo, who is already injured and certainly distraught from just having murdered his own father. I don't think it's that ridiculous to think she may be able to stand up to him.

I'm really hoping Episode VIII is mostly focused on a parallel journey through the Force with Rey and Kylo. Just keep it simple and focused on the Force.

Sidious wanted Luke to kill Vader so he could become his new apprentice.
Sidious wanted the strongest apprentice that he could control. If Luke was more powerful, yes, let's do it. He kills you and I get a new stronger apprentice. But it's also about controlling your apprentice. He always wants to become the Master himself.
It also doesn't preclude that there are many sith followers at any given time attempting to master the dark side of the force to take Master or Apprentice from another. I don't buy the only 2 rule. I buy there's always AT LEAST two.

I loved Finn picking up the ball that Luke trained with on the Falcon.

This. I think the only training he has has been with the force, not with his saber. His saber needs some work obviously. But his force abilities are there.

Fisher has had a tough life. OMG Carrie Fisher looks old and plastic. That help you?
It has nothing to do with the movie.
As does Adam Driver is sooooooooo ugly.
Get a grip.

Blueboy is so edgy. So hilarious. Especially with his "I know you are, but what am I?" comeback from earlier.

Luke sure has changed from ESB where he had a vision of Han in pain and rushed to his aide. You would think after "feeling a great disturbance in the force" when the Republic capital was destroyed he would feel compelled to help regardless of his failings as a Jedi.

This is like someone going on and on about The Godfather sucking because Marlon Brando was a crazy fricker and had cotton balls in his cheeks. Point on blue, point on.

I feel like one of the reasons they saved Luke was to give Hamill more time to get into fighting shape. That said, I would be fine with him showing his power in different ways (using the force to crash Star Destroyers or something).

quote:Yes. When it is disturbing and distracting, I fully expect it to be an issue when it comes to the overall aesthetic and storyline of a "film."
Is that something you expect people to argue? Really?
Are you really prepared to accept Bruce's botox monologues as if they are part of your childhood?

I have been thinking about it, and is it possible that they are going the Lord of the Rings route and try to make it one massive movie. It should start off right when this film ends. Rey meets Luke, Finn wakes up, and Kylo finally goes to his training with Snoke. Seems like it would have to take off exactly after the movie ends.
I wonder what they'd do for the opening crawl though.

I liked the movie, I really did, but I think they were trying to push the comedy card way too much. In the originals, we got comedy bits through Han Solo's sarcasm but they really were reaching with the comedy tidbits in this one.
