Script is bloated and poorly written which is also why there’s 2 subplots that are entirely inconsequential to the movie
shite lines are delivered like shite
Erratic tone
shite editing
shite production design
Terrible use of green screen and overcompensating with visual spectacles because what’s happening on screen has no weight
No emotional weight, worse it tries to deceive the audience into thinking something did actually happen
Undermining character motivations at every turn
Constantly severing the connection of the audience with things that don’t make sense, bend reality too far or killing the tone with gags
That’s the most concise way I can put it

have any of you more vocal haters compiled a neat listing of all that is bad/wrong with this movie?
I started to then realized I was writing a novel:
Holdo had NO CLUE the “hacker man” sold them out from her perspective. Her only viable train of thought would be “Poe must have betrayed us”. Why wasn’t he executed. His actions kill 95% of the resistance.
A “running out of fuel” based plot when fuel has never been an issue for other ships in the SW movie universe in history.
Explain how Force ghosts are now able to perform Thor level feats like reigning lightning from the heavens and how that doesn’t create an issue with every plot ever done and also going forward.
why DIDN’T Rose know the escape pod plan? Her job was to watch/maintain the escape pods. So wouldn’t someone had said - make sure these pods stay in bay but remain ready to go by “this point in time” and to be “refueled” since that is now a thing?
Explain why it was decided to smuggle a character driven film titled “find the code breaker” featuring the scooby doo gang into a plot driven film that did nothing but undermine the very character growth they were aiming for in their “find the code breaker” mini movie.
From LSUBoo - the rebels are somehow using bay doors and gravity to deliver bombs in outer space.
Explain why Luke, who is the Star Wars living embodiment of hope, was such a bitch quitter who essentially stated he was suicidal. And why, at the end, he killed himself after being a FaceTime hero when he apparently had the power to kill himself at any point over the years but did not. Luke was NOT Luke Skywalker in this movie. He was Luke CryGawker. He wasn’t the new HOPE anymore. He was the old NOPE. Totally misunderstood his character.
Explain Finn and Roses’ purpose in the movie, why Finn has shown no character growth at all, and why they their story took up 33% of the film time.
Explain why the first order couldn’t track back in light speed and then light speed back in from of the resistance fleet and just annihilate them. It was like they were trying to recreate the movie Speed where the purple haired lady was Bullock and Poe was Reeves except it was slow, Dennis Hopper was played by a cartoon ginger, and the plot to stop the bus actually blew up the bus and everyone in it.
(From a friend) Why didn't they just put a droid on the main ship, evacuate everyone off of it, and do that hyperjump through the dreadnaught at the very beginning of the chase?
Explain why we care about the purple haired lady and why it couldn’t be Ackbar or Antilles other than the fact we arbitrarily needed someone Poe couldn’t trust to force him on his meaningless hijinks.
Explain why it was necessary for everyone but Poe to know the great actual plan other than they needed a way for him to Star in a scooby doo plot.
Explain Rose’s attempted murder of Finn, “dying” like she was in a spaghetti western, Finn leaving her there to die after she confessed her love (the biggest lulz of the movie to me) only to have a rando redshirt save her life.
As other posters have stated - explain how Chewie was relegated to an Uber Driver befriending baby penguin Mogwais and how Rey is nothing more than Joe Dirt in space.
Explain how we are to fear Kylo who, as a sith is pretty much a bitch, when he has done nothing but get is arse kicked in both films, while also seeing the supreme and pointless evil snoke die so easily.
What was Luke’s third lesson to Rey? How to go out like a bitch?
All the allies in the outer rim left Leia hanging - no one gave a crap about them even though we had two speeches indicating how they had supporters everyone. But WAIT...we see a kid who can force pull a broomstick feeding a camelhorse does so all is saved.
Luke Milking that alien’s Johnson and then gurgling it back at Rey as if to see if you wanted in on hand action was a nice Star Wars moment too.
Why didn’t Rey force lift Kylo onto the Millennium Falcon and take him as a prisoner when she came to and Chewy ubered her out of the throne room? I mean...wouldn’t that have ended the threat right then and there? Instead, she left him laying there
Luke’s metal hand dissipating when he becomes a force ghost
Explain why were Rey and Chewy randomly flying around looking for “life forms”? They were LITERALLY just in a freaking dog fight with life forms next to the door with a huge hole in it that led to a room full of life forms. Did the force make them forget 5 minutes in the past and unable to see billows of smoke in the horizon indicating the exact location of life forms?

Hmm, I would not have listed any of that

One of the cool things about Star Wars and empire that I think TFA kind of did well in some spots was communicating things about characters visually
Boba fett’s costume tells you everything you need to know about him
Rey’s costume tells you a lot about her
Kylo ren’s lightsaber tells you everything about him
At the end, luke’s Appearance clues you in as to where he is emotionally
In this movie, the costumes and sets are uninspiring at best. Luke’s costume at the end is just flat out ridiculous.
The production design was terrible, and that’s really disappointing because the production designer has some real good looking movies to his credit

All that, and I think what was most obnoxious to me is that the rebels are somehow using bay doors and gravity to deliver bombs in outer space.

Also, did anyone else find the lasers from Snoke's ship curving really weird? At first I was like maybe I was just looking weird, but not, I was watching lasers, in space, be "lobbed" at a ship

Moreso that the bomb release is tied to a single mobile controller with no apparent redundancies. Why on earth is the ship set up that way?

Who is going to teach Rey how to build a lightsaber?

Also, what kind of bombs are those that the explosive payload doesn't blow up, except when they are armed? This may just be my ignorance on something, but if those ships are blown up, wouldn't that end up igniting the payload within the bombs? Wouldn't the arming just allow them to detonate on contact?
So, with those ships as close as they were, when they blew the first one up, how did it not ignite all the others with the size of those explosions?

To be fair, who taught Luke?

Obi Wan gave him one.
Which he lost when Vader chopped his hand off.

I haven’t had any fanboy complaints but I will say subverting the entire mythology of the movie is a bad choice and writing a screenplay with that as your top priority is guaranteed to lead to all the things that are so bad about this movie

Luke’s Force ghost will just build one for her while he watches her poop

It is assumed Yoda taught him in his training. Rey has no training and nobody to train her.

Also here’s another problem I had with the movie: Ben Solo had a regular lightsaber? I thought the point of Kylo’s lightsaber is that he couldn’t figure out how to build one. It was to point out that he was a flawed amateur.

Why? He did nothing with Luke as far as lightsabers are concerned.

Did they ever explain how they were tracking them through warp?

Yeah, I don’t follow that either.
