Where did I say it had no redeeming qualities? Why are you projecting so much?
It was a very pretty movie with some cool action sequences. Purple hair chick's death was badass. The movie and story were absolute garbage though. half the movie was completely pointless and rendered itself unnecessary by its own writing. The other part of the story abandons the best story lines and mystery that had been created.

It was a terrible movie. If you get three questions right on a 100 question test you still fail.
Stop defending it just because it is SW

I actually really did enjoy the movie as a summer popcorn flick on the level of Michael Bay’s Transformers.
If that’s what they set out to do, they knocked it out of the park.
If they were trying to set up a coherent Star Wars story that fit the lore they crapped the bed.

They were trying to be grand and made a statement on society to change society. Fern and little Rian said so.
They instead produced an incoherent and hateful mess.

I can agree with this. Though I would never submit popcorn to such a thing either. A solid Raisinettes flick maybe?

Poe’s actions, from the first scene to the last, directly lead to the brutal deaths of 99% of the resistance.
He actually saved the resistance.
If they don't destroy the Dreadnought in the opening scene, it follows the Rebel Fleet with the rest of the First Order through hyperspace, and the ship destroys the Salt Mine Rebel Base from orbit, ending the resistance.
The should be thanking Poe for saving them instead of scolding him, and preparing for his inevitable death in IX.

If Snoke’s giant whatever the frick that thing was couldn’t destroy them then how was the Dreadnought?
Also can I ask why they had to pull their TIE fighters back? “We can’t support you” who the frick cares? Kylo already destroyed all of their fighters and the ships’ canons appeared woefully ineffective.

He led to 95% of their forces being destroyed. Poe is the actual main antagonist of the film when you think it through.

Why? If Laura Dern still went to lightspeed, the ship would have still been destroyed.

Poe's a dumbass.

Yeah "We can't cover you"?! Like the evil Empire gives a single shite about that. They'd say get your arse back out there, and if you don't, then Kylo Ren will chop you in half. Vader didn't give a frick when it came to entire Star Destroyers sending them into an asteroid field after the Millennium Falcon.

Hi everyone! I'm sure that this has been a fairly positive thread, and I hate to bring it down, but I sure had some problems with this movie.
1. The physics of no-gravity space. I'm not sure that Rian has ever taken a science class. The idea that bombs could fall in space and bombers could fall absolutely killed the movie for me. However, I was willing to suspend some disbelief, because surely, the movie would pivot.
2. The Resistance. I mean, what a bunch of freaking idiots. "Let's hide all of our true intentions from each other so that most of our fighters die. Then, after most of them die, we will have the smug look on our faces knowing that we knew better the whole time." Get your shite together. There's 12 of you left. You deserve to lose.
3. The First Order - I don't actually have a problem with the First Order's battle plans. Sure there were better plans, but the ego of Hux and Snoke stopped them from thinking of a better plan. They enjoyed their opponents' slow demise too much. It was hard to suspend disbelief that the First Order wouldn't just shoot all of the Resistance's ships as soon as possible and wipe them out. It was silly more than anything.
4. Rose - I've never seen a more blatant example of a SJW trope in the history of movies. She was a ridiculous addition to the movie who a. ruined any appeal Finn had as a character b. prohibited Finn from sacrificing for the cause and adding some real stakes to the film c. was just awful the whole time.
5. Gambling Town - I mean...come on. That was so freaking dumb.
6. Holdo - what an idiot. What an idiot.
7. Snoke - overall, what a waste of what could have been a cool character and cool reveal. He was SOOO blinded by ego that he couldn't see what Kylo was doing? Come on. That's ridiculous. Also, that was it? That was the "big bad?" Wow, Emperor>>>>Snoke
8. Luke dying - unnecessary and doesn't add much to the next movie. Why the obsession with force ghosts, which Luke will obviously show up as next movie? They are great and all, but why not have Luke actually die in a battle with Kylo in the next movie or this one? It was a cool "trick" but then him just passing on was ridiculously stupid.
9. Placeholder - movie started and ended in the same place. we're still looking for a base for the resistance, but now, it's just way, way worse off.
There's more, but I'm getting too pissed to think about them.

Again, just bad writing. They had no gunners or fighters.
I got really sick of watching the 1st order do the same thing over and over again: Use big weapon but Resistance fights with a couple fighters and fends them off. Then when things get hairy, scramble the fighters. The resistance's only threat is fighters, they have no big weapons at this point. Even in the OT and prequels, they would attack first with fighters, the Republic/Rebels were just better. There is no logic behind any of it. Send in your least valuable forces to clear out as much as they can and pave the way for your big weapon. Yes, the Empire failed at this in ANH, but they mostly learned from it, see RotJ.
In that opening sequence, they First Order took out the bombers with ease with their fighters, then all of a sudden when there is just one bomber left and Poe, they can't take it down? That was awful.

+1000 with your last two posts
Poe is an idiot. He's an absolute idiot, but he's enabled by his handlers and commanders. They reveal nothing to him forcing him to have to act. He may act rashly and stupidly, but there's no reason for Holdo to not tell him what her plan is.
Hux definitely doesn't care about the fighter pilots, why would he? Why would Kylo? I mean, send them like kamikazes? Who cares? You've got a bajillion fighters, just let them do their freaking job.

I assumed they were magnetically accelerated.

Also, did anyone else find the lasers from Snoke's ship curving really weird? At first I was like maybe I was just looking weird, but not, I was watching lasers, in space, be "lobbed" at a ship
Posted on 12/18/17 at 9:29 am to CorporateTiger
So, let's say they were. The ship wouldn't fall out of space unless the Dreadnought had a ridiculous gravity field.
Also, how did rose's sister breath in outer space?

Apparently there is gravity in space

Eh, there are lots of ships that do weird gravity shite in Star Wars. That is something you kind of have to just look past.

but it wasn't complete crap like so many here are saying.
You are a moron if you believe this. If the only problem was the direction of the story, one would be able to argue that it's a matter of opinion. My opinion is the story line sucked.
The writing for this movie is completely broken on every single level. They broke so many established rules of writing it's not even funny. So what you have left is a incompetent piece of writing that also completely veers away from where it should be, and is broken from the basic fundamentals of writing.
