The fact that we didn’t get a backstory to Snoke is ridiculous. Here’s one I thought of on my own:
Snoke was a Jedi Master who was selling off information to Palpatine seeing that the Jedi Order should be no more as well. When Order 66 occurs, Snoke fakes his own death after being injured by Vader and betrayed by Palpatine. In the meantime Snoke begins looking for more Force holograms and putting his own plants into power positions in the Empire and other regions of the Galaxy, waiting for a time he can either get to Palpatine or he is killed.
Then once Palpatine is killed and over half the Empire surrenders, Snoke’s moles do a small scale coup where they take some Star Destroyers as their own and take over some outer rim worlds where Snoke has previously installed puppet rulers. They declare independence from the Republic, and start building their forces and terrorizing their neighbors. Pretty simple.

I guess it’s not spoilers anymore, but the supposed backstory for Snoke was that he was some ancient being who watched the rise and fall of the empire from far away in the outer rim and was obsessed with balancing the force. Now he’s just some a-hole who was as (or more) powerful than the emperor, but got killed by not seeing a lightsaber moving at his side or that his hugely unstable apprentice was turning on him.

That really is one thing that I probably hated most about this movie, and to some degree TFA, how incredibly easy they make using the force. It just spits in the face of all the other movies.

the end of the movie was literally a scene of some street kid using the force to retrieve his broom

I buy that some people who have a natural connection can probably push/pull things towards them or use mindtricks to manipulate others. I’d think it’d be like a 1 in a billion or so, but as massive as the Star Wars universe is, it happens more than you think.

Yeah, Broom kid didn't bother me.
In fact, in a better movie, that last scene with him could have actually resonated.

I can understand having raw ability and things accidentally happen. They kind of touched on that with Anakin with his ability to do the Pod racing and then know the images or whatever (I'm guessing that was some type of mind reading or something). The type of control that kid had with the broom I didn't like, but that was the least of my concerns. I would have much rather him use an ability out of anger or just some raw emotion causing it to happen than just being able to completely control it, but whatever.
Rey being able to move all those boulders with complete control and ease, when it took Yoda a pretty good amount of strain to stop those rocks in AotC was laughable. Absolutely no training or anything. Snoke has been touched many, many times so we are all aware of the issues with his character.

I think I will just wait for it to come out on DVD. Be a lot cheaper, which given that the plot is cheaper, is appropriate.

Posted this in another thread and too lazy to rewrite it:

Are we going to gloss over the fact that for a second movie in a row, Rey picks up a weapon and bests an infinitely more powerful Jedi/Sith?
I almost walked out of the theater when she and Luke had their stick fight in the rain and Luke wound up on the ground after his arse was beaten. The guy fought Darth Vader twice but can't beat a novice girl who doesn't know jack shite about the Force? All this shite about "raw power" is tired beyond belief.
That was one of the dumber scenes in a movie filled with WTF.

So I’m watching a crappy bowl game right now, and the most passive agressive commercial towards the audience I’ve ever seen came on.
“Let’s cut to the chase, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is still the #1 movie in the world for the second week in a row.”
Might as well say “Listen assholes, even though you all hate the movie, we’re still making hundreds of millions of dollars. It’s not like we’re panicking or anything...”

Well, should they be?
I'm still going to go see the Han Solo movie, considering Rian isn't involved.
I'm probably going to go see Episode IX since Abrams is back at the helm.

Unless posters I trust here rave about it, I’m not going. And even if they do rave, I’m waiting until week 3 at least.

I'm not an opening night guy regardless, so yeah I suppose if the reviews are just overwhelmingly terrible from friends that even loved Episode VIII, then maybe I'll reconsider.
Even though I overall agree with this board's sentiment on Episode VIII, I don't regret going to see it.

Unfortunately I will be at Episode IX opening night and I'll be fully torqued and praying JJ does a great job.
There's no chance I go see that Solo movie until it's been out a couple weeks and the dust settled though.
There will be no trusting reviews for that movie from anyone. It's going to be caught in a perfect shite storm of angry fanboys, trolls, paid shills, etc...

Do they plan on releasing some stand alone movie to squeeze every dollar out of Star Wars they can? I won’t go see the Solo movie or Episode IX at the theater unless I hear great reviews from people I trust. Screw Disney for cheapening a glorious franchise with crap characters and crap plots.
