There is something about a bounty hunter/assassin that is hunting her down as a child. Everyone thinks it is to kill her, which is why they send her to Jakku and abandon her, but Palpatine said it was just to find her and bring her to him.
Wouldn't Palpatine's child (one of Rey's parents) be ridiculously strong with the Force? Why would they be fearing some bounty hunter?
And how would Palpatine even know about a granddaughter if he was half-dead when she was born?
And why would Palpatine even be going after the granddaughter while ignoring his own kid? And why is -
I'm just going to stop. This is just an absurd plot.

I'm going to be more forgiving than I should on this one, but it is plenty plausible that his offspring weren't force sensitive I guess. He could have stopped trying that after the result. Then he felt Rey when she was born and set out trying to bring her to him.

how dare you ask silly questions

Probably for the best. I haven't seen the movie yet, so what I posted was just from the leaks, so I don't know if it is 100% accurate and how it actually plays out. That was just the gist of it.

frick me. This is the saddest part of the debacle I have heard so far.

I just watched that plot explanation/spoiler video. What an absolute cluster. No Anakin/Vader at all? Then what was the point of the first 6 movies? Why’d we spend so much time on his story? Also, how did Yoda, Mace Windu, and Luke all fail to kill the Emperor, but Mary Sue Skywalker can in a quick deflection of force lighting?

We all know why:

You'll laugh when you watch this scene. It's quite possibly the stupidest scene I've ever seen in a big budget film of this magnitude.
Palpatine is getting lightning reflected back at him and is screaming out as he's dying - yet he's the one shooting the lightning. All he has to do is stop.
He basically kills himself.

Maybe he just got done watching TLJ.

It's so bad.
I guarantee the conversation went basically like "look what he did in RotS, it almost killed him then, it will work this time".
Well, no, he clearly stopped before it would have "killed" him, plus he was still manipulating Anakin at that point. There is absolutely no reason he would have stopped

I am getting a bit of sick satisfaction seeing friends realize how right I was after TFA and how awful this trilogy was going to be for the story of Star Wars.
They talked themselves down to the "JJ set the table" nonsense, but I think they subconsciously knew it could never go anywhere from there. When Rian casually killed the new big bad, it was truly over.

George Lucas was heavily involved in the re-shoots that JJ Abrams and the rest of the cast and crew were working on almost up to the last minute.
- A George Lucas Cut of the film now exists and was also screened in front of test audiences.

This cut was Lucas's baby through and through. But it wasn't used. Final cut approval rested with....wait for it....Kathleen Kennedy. And she decided to go with a different cut
This would explain why George has been a ghost for the last couple months and didn't even show up to the premier.

Yep. All of my friends said I was crazy when I said I didn't like TFA. Not because the movie was bad. As a stand alone movie it would have been fine. it was a very good movie as far as cinematography go.
It shite on the orginal 6 quite a good bit, but people glossed completely over it out of sheer hope that it would get explained better in later movies. Fool's hope. Hell, there were plenty that floated Rey being a Palpatine after that movie. Lots of theories based on how she used a lightsaber and certain moves and what not.

And apparently you no longer need to be a highly trained Sith to harness the power of Force lightning. Rey just accidentally shoots out lightning from her hands towards a ship. A ship that was accelerating out of the atmosphere and into space - which she prevented from doing so. Just halted it in its tracks.
Remember when Yoda had to abandon a battle with Dooku and concentrate entirely on preventing a single rock from killing Obi-Wan and Anakin?
Or when Luke couldn't even raise an X-Wing?
Or when Yoda again had to use all his concentration to prevent a platform from spiraling towards him?

TFA? How so? I thought it set up the trilogy very well.

It's like what JJ did to Star Trek. The first one was an okay movie, but he did things like time travel that I knew were going to ruin anything going forward. They did.
I hear he's got another Star Trek announced too. Disney is going to wring all of the dollars they can out of it, come hell or high water.
same goes with Star Wars.

Why didn’t Obi Wan heal Qui Gon of his wound? Surely the Jedi wounded on Geonosis could’ve been healed by their brethren?
How dare Yoda, a Jedi Master of 800 years keep the secret of Force healing to himself!

Completely mitigating what it took to harness the force, be a Jedi, and even wield a lightsaber.
The story already set up the path to completely negate Anakin/Vader’s story arc.
Beyond that, is completely negated the entire story in the OT and PT. Everything they did was completely pointless. It didn’t matter.
As I said, as a stand alone movie, TFA is fine and could set up a cool trilogy. The problem is that it set up the OT again, not some new story, thus making the OT have no point. If the OT and PT did not exist, TFA would be fine.

After watching decades of sci-fi, time travel is the worst plot device. It seems like if you've seem one you've seen them all.
Oh gosh, yes. How will altering the past affect the future. What do you know, it'll have effects.

quote:I knew at the time and said it when the first one came out. All they're going to do is rework the old plots and characters in random order and combination while patting themselves on the back about how clever they are. In reality, it was just an excuse not to write anything.

The following Star Trek movie was a total clusterfrick of the above scenario.
The worst part is that the built-in audience gives them box office numbers that seemingly validate their shitty work.
If these ST and SW movies were genuinely good, they'd be taking turns culling out the all time box office top 10. Instead, they're hastening the demise of both brands.

I think it's funny, no matter how girl power they went, they still needed a man to save their asses in the end.
That cut scene, ouch.
