Mainly due to the sluggish attendance at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. I personally find it shameful that they forced this woman to take the fall for what is ultimately Kathleen Kennedy's mess.

quote:

Catherine Powell, who oversees the U.S. and Paris theme parks for The Walt Disney Company, is leaving the studio, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

As president of Disney Parks West, Powell was in charge of Disneyland Paris, Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Powell was also in her post during the recent openings for two new Star Wars lands — Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Walt Disney World in Orlando and another at the California Disneyland park — that fell flat on attendance.

Disney had to follow up the turnout for the Star Wars attraction launches with discount pricing and aggressive marketing.

It's understood from sources at Disney that Powell's post has been eliminated, and she will help in the transition as her staff reports to Disney Parks, Experiences & Products, chairman Bob Chapek.

Kathleen Kennedy is terrible and should’ve been fired long ago but not for this. She has very little to do with the Disney Park issue.

And to be honest, this lady shouldn’t have been fired anyway. They should’ve given it more time.

Bob Iger reportedly wanted to fire her last year but no one wanted to step in and replace her.

Disney parks are heavily built for children. Unfortunately for star wars the OT is dated to kids, the Prequels were not good, and the new movies....well you know. So unless parents are actively trying to get their kids into the saga and story there isn't a lot of attraction for the new generation

Their entire idea of making the park have nothing to do with the original trilogy was the downfall

This is likely a sign of people not dropping $10k to stay in a star wars themed hotel

It's all Disney's fault

A. Disneyworlds Star Wars World has been open 1 month

B. Disneyland’s Star Wars Land only has 1 ride open and the full area won’t be open till January. I had read where most families were waiting till the whole thing opened before spending thousands of dollars going out there.

They seem to be jumping the gun a little bit.

Is this true? Asking out of ignorance since I haven't done much research on it.

If so, that's profoundly stupid.

Galaxy's Edge is in the time frame of the new trilogy to capitalize on what Disney has done to it. It's First Order vs Resistance.

It would be fine if they did that had they honored the originals, but no, they shat on the hardcore fans that would flock to these parks and now only the Jones's who have to be seen there are the only ones that are going. I'm kinda shocked it isn't performing well at WDW. I figured the hardcore WDW fans would have to go and get their facebook pictures taken even though they aren't big Star Wars fans. Disneyland under performing didn't really seem that shocking to me given that parks nature.

Last I heard, the reason for the big delay in opening rides is that the company tried to use cheap Chinese steel to save money and it turned out what they received wasn’t of the proper dimensions to run the ride, meaning they had to tear it all out and redo it to great expense.

If she was in charge of that decision to try and save money, that may be exactly why she is out.

My buddy just went and said it was meh. I agree it should have been more of an ode to the originals

I thought it was going to be a Mos Eisley

They should've made a Marvel theme park and there would be lines around the block.

Star Wars die hards are adults now. People who fell in love with the originals. The new movies suck and haven't grabbed the younger generation like the Marvel franchise has.

I think she has quite a bit to do with Disney Park issue because part of the reason Disney bought Star Wars was the Movie, Merch, Park tie ins. When you kill the enthusiasm of the movie, the other 2 parts will decline.

The damn Harry Potter attraction at Universal is always packed because people where excited from the books and movies.

They can't in Disney World. Universal owns the rights to Marvel characters. They are making Avengers stuff in Disneyland and Disneyland Paris.

I've talked to a bunch of people that have gone to Star Wars land and they all talk about how long the lines are and how packed it is and how awesome it was.

How sexist of Disney to fire a woman and hand her job to a white man

I really don’t know anything about any of this. When I opened the thread I thought for sure
That this would be about something political
Or about Disney “promoting gay character.

So I guess this is about Star Wars purity and faithfulness to the original story?

No. Disney bought 21st century Fox

Universal and them are competitors hence Universal Studios and Disneyworld

It's about fans taking credit for the firing of a person who had zero to do with the films those fans claim to boycott.
