But in today's age where we are fricked with getting 10, sometimes only 8 episodes every two or three years, then yeah, don't waste my time with more than 47 minutes or lighthearted, silly shite. I'll give you 1 episode a season, after that I'm just going to get irritated with it.
The only lighthearted one I liked was the crossover with Lower Deck as I watched that as well.
I feel like more serialization of a major overhanging plot is also required for dramas with 10 or less episodes even if some episodes touch on it less due to having a large self contained or episodic storyline. It can be personal for the main character or characters, but it needs to be important, show growth, be a part of each episode to varying degrees, and be building over the season to the final. You need it to feel like the season took itself and you somewhere from start to finish. Being too episodic focused and/or going off the reservation too often in a season gets in the way of that journey.
I watched a British cop show with 4 or 6 episodes in a season that was or felt like it was 99.9% episodic except for something between the cop and ex-wife that I thought had been dealt with in a prior season. I didn’t even realize the final episode of the season was the final episode because the season went nowhere. I waited for almost 2 weeks after the release of the last episode before finally looking it up to find out the season had actually ended. Sure they solved a murder each episode, but that’s expected. I felt like I wasted time watching something that affected nothing. You could skip the season and still understand what was going on when the next season started. You could Bobby Ewing in the shower it and make it a dream, and no one would be shocked or care as it didn’t matter.

The only memorable item was the building of Kirk and Spock's lifelong friendship.
That was about the only bright spot of the season finale for me, the conclusion of the storyline from IMO the best episode of the season felt rushed to me.

I'm thinking that the final season will lean into the heaviness a bit. We'll be heading towards Pike's debilitating accident with, hopefully, Kirk's promotion to Captain of the Enterprise.
This certainly wasn't a great episode, but it had its moments. And yeah, Kirk and Spock taking their friendship to another level (outside of 3D Chess) was the high-point.

I hope this is true but I'm pretty sure I read an article a few weeks ago that said one of the episodes of season 4 was going to portray them as muppets.
That doesn't exactly fill me with confidence

I wasn’t a huge fan of the season finale, but I thought it gave Pike a gift that will allow him to accept his fate. He was allowed to “live” a full life with Patel.

It's amazing that people don't realize OG Star Trek was canceled prior to two seasons.
It's even more difficult to believe for younger people now as broadcast seasons are shorter now than they were then and streaming seasons are even shorter than that.
The original Star Trek series contained 79 episodes spread out over three seasons (~26 episodes per season), SNW thus far has 30 episodes spread out over the same amount of seasons (thus not being even half).
To compare, series on broadcast networks now run about 20-22 episodes per season.
