The Squints-Wendy Peffercorn scene with "This Magic Moment" playing in the background is one of my favorite movie scenes. Sandlot for sure.

I love them both. But if I had to choose, I'd go with Stand By Me. Both are fairly reminiscent of my childhood in ways (I was born in '61). But I'd give Stand By Me the edge in character interactions.

Stand By Me has the Leaches scene and the Pie Eating scene. Both iconic.

Stand by Me because I watched it as a kid. I was in high-school when The Sandlot came out. Both are great though.

Same here. SBM was the first movie I truly got immersed in and fully identified with. Me and 3 other friends were thick as thieves and did everything together. Once we got into high school we eventually went our own ways. To this very day, I have no idea what any of them are up to or even where they live.

But this is a great movie comparison even though they're completely different genres.

I see them as two sides of the same coin. The SBM kids all have issues at home and the movie has a somewhat dark tone. We don't know anything about the home life of any of The Sandlot kids except Smalls but they all seem pretty happy. SBM is basically The Sandlot for kids from the other side of the tracks.

Both are fantastic coming of age movies. I was born in 79 so saw Stand By Me first, so I remember it most.

I was a baseball player, love baseball movies, really love sandlot, but like others my age have said, it came out when I was in college and is more of a kids movie.

Stand By Me came out when I was a kid, watched it with the old man who absolutely loved it, brought him back to his childhood, was my first real look at what it was like when he was a kid, which fascinated me, made a bigger impact on me.

So Stand By Me gets my vote

Stand By Me is a better movie overall but Sandlot is much more fun of a watch.

Biggest problem w/Sandlot is the constant use of "Then we did the dumbest thing WE EVER DID"

I saw Stand By Me no fewer than ten times in the theater. First time I French kissed a girl was while watching it.

I like The Sandlot quite a bit, it's great, but Stand By Me is in my all-time Top 10.

Not if you were a grown man for both. The Sandlot is funny. It reminded me of things I did as a kid. Stand By Me deals with some serious issues. It reminded me of kids I grew up with. I knew a kid who's brother got killed who had to deal with his family saying, "Why can't you be like your brother?" I was with I'm when his grandmother said it. Knew kids that had parents that everyone in town thought were crazy too. Stand By Me really hit home. It had me thinking about calling some guys to see how they were doing.

I'm of the age where Stand By Me seems the obvious choice - better actors (River Phoenix, Kiefer Sutherland), better director (Rob Reiner on a legendary winning streak). Plus.. the song. But really, these movies are way too different to compare. SBM is a drama. Granted there were funny bits, but most dramas have moments to lighten the mood (see Steel Magnolias or Driving Miss Daisy). Sandlot was a great sentimental comedy directed by I-don't-know and starring never-seen-again, similar to A Christmas Story which hits a lot of the same notes and is, frankly, a lot better. JMH(BAC)O.

JMH(BAC)O: Just my humble, but absolutely correct, opinion *trademark dcw7g 2017.

Sandlot ,because Squints pulled the most epic move of all time with Wendy Peffercorn.

No it doesn't. I was born in 77 and its Sandlot for me. It was more fun and most generations can connect to playing ball with neighborhood kids. My 10 year old has been obsessed with it for years too.
