will say this though...Theon got off easy on the show

This.

I actually like Theons character at the end of book five. His last words in his last chapter when he see's Asha is one of the best quotes in the whole series. Hes not even recognizable to his sister and she asks who he is, "it's your brother, theon greyjoy." Its the 1st time hes viewed himself as a human much less as a man in who knows how long. I'm pumped about his story line.

So the Iron Islanders knock out Theon and turned him over to the Boltons. The implication was that a deal had been struck allowing the ~20 Iron Islanders free passage through tbe siege lines in exchange for Theon and opening the castle gates. But the Boltons killed them all, right?

I seem to remember it being said all were lost in a later episode, but maybe I'm confused.

they killed the ironborn holding winterfell, then killed the ironborn holding moat cailin after they used theon to gain access to the castle.

theon eventually escapes and goes back home. after that, the next time the ironborn are addressed is when euron shows up and kills balon

*escapes and winds up in Stannis' camp who are on the way to Winterfell. Asha is the first person he comes upon. His first Winds of Winter chapter is his being captured by Stannis and being questioned.

You have to remember that Ramsey Bolton was the original Reek. Ramsey was Roose's Reek who went rogue and killed the Greyjoy's and slaughtered everyone at Winterfell to prove himself. Reek then took Theon to mold into his own Reek.

Umm, what. Are you talking about the books? Ramsay had a reek before Theon and they were almost inseparable. The original reek, Heke, was pretty evil too but during a hunt they were found near Winterfell and Ramsay dressed as the first reek and he befriended Theon while he was pretending to be reek. Roose never had a reek.

That’s gonna be a no from me dawg.

The original reek was a stableboy (or maybe he tended to the hounds I don’t remember) that was in Roose’s service.

Ramsay took a liking to him and Reek actually basically raised Ramsay. Even going so far as being the man who taught Ramsay how to fight (which is said that he swings a sword like a butcher not like a swordsman. Just brute and hacking and mean).

It is funny that you mention this, because this is how I remembered it from the book also. And I was corrected by friends when I referenced it one time. Weird.

Ramsey was a little tougher on Theon than John Wick.
