and thats to say Thor wouldnt?

Mind Resistance: Thor has the ability to resist the mental influence of powerful beings. He resisted a mind thrust attack of the Rigellians,[128][129] the magical music of Ares, a mental attack from Glory, Morgana le Fay's attempt to dominate his mind, resisted the power of the Eye of Horus, and the mind blast of the Super-Beast.[130]

So...there's that

Perhaps if it were a being with cosmic level power, i.e., The Phoenix, but the examples provided there were from gods so even that's debatable.

One of Superman's known weaknesses is a susceptibility to mental attacks/magic. I feel pretty confident saying that Mjolnir (i.e., enchanted hammer) would allow Thor to take down Superman.

alright you have a point with the hammer against Superman. what about a Superman-esque character of magic. Shazaam and Black Adam. I feel Black Adam could go toe to toe then. He is a living embodiment of gods and magic.

Would probably be my number 1 as well. His only weakness obviously is disconnecting him from the board. I think it doesn't matter for Modern Surfer though.

Well, Black Adam apparently worked over Supes in a 2010 animated film that I never saw according to wikipedia.

I couldn't speculate about how they would match-up with Thor, however, because I don't really know much about Black Adam or Captain Marvel.

More google-fu suggests Captain Marvel is susceptible to magic as well. Advantage: Thor. Black Adam lists no such weakness. Stalemate, I guess? I dunno. I'll admit we're above my pay grade here.

If Galactus is in the tournament Silver Surfer would have a ceiling to how far he could advance. Galactus powers him. They match up, Galactus removes powers. Game over.

Plus in terms of comic characters Silver Surfer really, really sucks. He's a silver dude that flies through space on a fricking surf board and tells his boss where the next all you can eat buffet is. So lame. So if popularity influenced voting (and not just objectivity) he wouldn't last long, IMO.

Why has no one mentioned Apocalypse!?

Others to mention Scarlet Witch, Gladiator, Mephisto and Ghost Rider would be hard to stop. Especially Ghost Rider with his Penance Stare.

Darkhouse mutant who I thought is pretty badass is Omega Red.

Naaaa, I don't think you're familiar with Surfer enough.

THIS IS WHY THIS SHOULD HAPPEN.

Is that a gratuitous oversimplification? Yup! Is Silver Surfer more nuanced than that? Sure, the whole Norin Radd aspect adds depth. But that description captures the gist of it.

If you're disagreeing that Galactus provides a ceiling for SS's advancement, well...

To me, the statement that "He it was who invested the Surfer with the Power Cosmic -- Yet even that power pales before the unimaginable might of...Galactus!" is telling.

It really doesn't. See here:

Surfer routinely appears on Best Super hero lists. He's fairly popular and has always been an interesting character.

Galactus is a ceiling for, well, everyone. But he's only a ceiling for SS when SS is serving as Herald. He's actually one of Galactus' few threats.

Batman is the most powerful hero ever. Unbeatable. He USED to be a man but then he mutated...

Now he's nothing more than a plot device with arms and legs.

Is he worthy of thor's hammer with the required character and morale?

That's why Superman was able to use it.

Well, that same article you linked states this:

quote:

The Surfer approached Galactus, but he would not listens and became frustrated with the Surfer's constant meddling. Galactus and the Surfer fought and naturally Galactus emerged the victor.

This was when SS was not a herald of Galactus. So if you're acknowledging that Galactus > SS when SS is the herald of Galactus, and that indicates that Galactus > SS when SS is NOT a herald of Galactus, it seems the answer clearly evident. Am I missing something? Is your argument that he could starve Galactus by sending him to crap planets and win the long game? You'd have to think Galactus could see that coming.

Galactus is a ceiling for, well, everyone

Maybe The Phoenix? Possibly a Celestial? What is Franklin Richard's ceiling? I suppose Eternity.

It's worth mentioning that Silver Surfer #1 drops next Wednesday. No ties to Galactus....will be doing whatever he wants in the universe.

The point is that saying Galactus is better than SS therefore SS isn't powerful is kind of ridiculous, seeing that Galactus is pretty much better than anyone that isn't some sort of celestial demigod.
