Spider-Man 2 has long been the best Spider-Man film. Does Brand New Day dethrone it?

I do not think it is close. I have 1 and 2 and the two animated films ahead of any Holland entries.

Spider-Man 2 is the perfect superhero movie. I love The Dark Knight just as much, but that feels like a breakthrough in terms of superhero movie branching successfully into a new genre. But as it stands as to what a Superhero movie is and should strive for - you can’t beat Spider-Man 2.

The emphasis on the crappy life of Peter Parker because of the weight of Spider-Man’s responsibilities, losing his love, having his best friend hate him for not being there in his time of grief, his Aunt being evicted for not being able to afford her home, the weight and responsibilities of being a superhero.

It’s just perfect. Not a single scene wasted. Peter running into the burning building to save a child, MJ slowly realizing that Peter and Spider-Man kiss the same, Aunt May’s powerful speech about there being a hero in all of us (she definitely knows Peter is spider man). And it builds off the first movie in the most satisfying ways. MJ finally seeing Peter revealed as Spider-Man was the buildup of two films executed to perfection.

I’m not hating the MCU, but it’s hard pressed to find a MCU movie that carries all of that emotional weight.

It’s a 10/10 masterpiece and Raimi’s magnum opus

I'll let you know tomorrow after we get back from the theater. Tom Holland is already my favorite Spider-Man, though.

I'd have to rewatch both, but they're absolutely in the top tier of Spidey films. The Holland films have always been solid but this was finally Peter on his own. No Avengers, no Stark tech, no friends or family, just Peter on his own trying to save the city.

Dude was trying to just be Spider-Man and nothing else because he had nothing else. Even when chances presented themselves like the girl in his apartment he just ignored it. Him finally being able to understand he has to be both Peter and Spider-Man while finding out how to balance both is great

I do hope they just don't have MJ and Ned automatically remember Peter and it looks like they won't. With this gap I hope they find ways to introduce Felicia, Gwen, or Harry into the universe.

The villain seems to be more to set up future problems with the X Men. Jean's actions in here will absolutely factor into public perceptions of mutants which the DoDC will use to go after them not to mention the universal inhibitor chip Peter left at the DoDC

Not a chance, I will take Raimi's Spider-Man 2 over all MCU

It’s a lot like Dark Knight Rises which made the most money in that series but had the most story and character problems. My youngest, who’s grown up with Holland’s Spider-Man loves it by far more than the others so I can see why a generation connected with it so much despite its issues. I’m like you, Jean Grey was so jarring it brought the movie down quite a bit for me.
